Under what rock have you been hiding for the past 25 years if you haven't worked on disc braks? ;-) You will find changing pads on disc brakes will take 1/4 the time (or less) than it took to change shoes on drum brakes. Unless they're frozen in place, in which case you will have to learn some German words to use in your appeal to the car gods. If there is a scraping noise coming from the front of the car, it is possible that the pads have worn sufficiently that the disc is scored heavily. In which case, replace it. MBZ discs are meant to be replaced, and do not last the life of the car. Bill Dentzel wrote: > Hello Benz Friends! It has a P/S A/C and what appears to be some type of hydraulic pump plus the fan. Do all these pumps slide on a bracket? Loosen the brackets and pry down on the tensioner pulley arm? Any tips would be appreciated. Roger _________________________________________________________________ Is your PC infected? Get a FREE online computer virus scan from McAfee. VIN Number: WDBAB33A0DB018625 Light Blue paint, blue MBTex interior VG except drivers side seam rip on left side. 250,000 miles. Runs great, starts at zero F. Lubed with Mobil One. Asking $2,200. Plenty of stuff needed repair during my tenure but the car never stranded me. I bought it to see what driving a diesel is all about. I would keep it but I have too many cars. Used for a daily commute 15 miles each way for 2 years, and occasionally haul a small trailer with a dirt bike. I took several longer trips also. But now I have 2 old BMWs and a truck. I had my fun, now it's time for someone else to enjoy this car. No excess smoke at startup or otherwise. Motor does leak some oil, probably turbo drain. I have parts but didn't get to this repair. Several other leaks repaired including front crank seal. Replaced vacuum pump and water pump on as part of preventive maintenance. Euro-style headlights with H4 bulbs. No slop in steering, brakes are great. Bilsteins in rear last year. 4 80% Kumho snows on stock mags, 4 all seasons, one with a leak, about 30% tread, on 4 more stock mags. Ventilation works fine includling A/C - changed to 134 and cools well. I am second owner, bought it 2 years ago at 224,000 miles. When I bought it the body looked very good, had been repainted recently. Since then, in 2 NY winters 4 rust holes showed up, in front lower fenders below bumper and rear lower fenders under bumpers. Bubbling on left fender above tire. Rust at 300D emblem hastily painted over. A minor hit in the rear appears to have been repaired by evidence around the inside of the trunk opening. All the rest of the body is basically OK though. I turned up the boost from 8 psi to about the stock 12/13 psi, better power since. Power windows and sunroof work fine. Updated IP lighting. There is a dash cover that has a couple of cracks in it. Added foam and repaired springs in drivers seat to firm up and straighten. Some water leaks in during rain at passengers footwell, don't know where. Cruise control surges somewhat. Tach is non-functional except when it jumps erratically. Still a good car. The original owner got the badge for the 250,000 KM mark on the grill. He called it his "baby" and had a hard time letting it go, but he had a new MB and the wife wouldn't let him keep both. Driver inside door handle pivot is broke but functions. Rearview mirror frame is cracked. Auto antenna mast does not go down all the way. Needs a new hood star, someone stole the start out of the little rim. Trans, when slowing to about 5 mph and then speeding up, stays in low gear to about 20 mph, I consider this a minor fault of the trans logic. Any other speed and it doesn't happen. Some parts are included like motor mounts (doesn't need them AFAIK). Most service records too. I believe the transmission replaced or rebuilt once. A number of good qualilty pictures are available on request.
