Need to install a stereo, finish fixing the injection system, clean up a few things, check everything out and then find it a home. It's only got 137,000 miles on it... very clean. Not sure what happened to it that it ended up with the problems it had, but they aren't serious... just stupid... Amazing how easily some people will give up on a car if they don't know what they're doing. :) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Nov 2004 17:32:15 -0500 From: "Michael Aimino" Subject: [db] parts for sale Mercedes parts for sale. Owner says its been doing it for three years and 20k miles. Knocking started all at once. Knock gets less at speed. Seems most pronounced at startup. Owner got advice "Run it until it blows up." I had one before that did this and I changed the injectors and the knock went away. Im thinking of buying this car and driving it to Alaska. Its not really important if it doesnt make it, but would like to eliminate mechanical problems. Is there a quick and dirty test you can do to detect faulty injectors? It does seem to be coming from the head area but who knows. Any other test posssible to eliminate other mechanical dammage? Check valve clearances? >-->Thanks in advance for any suggestions! >--> >-->Paul kneisl listen with a long screwdriver to see if the knock is coming from an injector, inside the engine, or even the vacuum pump... it might even be the timing chain hitting the cover... hard to say until you isolate the location... It might be worth checking the chain and adjusting the valves... maybe having the injectors tested... replacement is only about $50 each... getting rid of the noise could be quite simple and make your adventure to Alaska much more enjoyable. :) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Nov 2004 18:04:56 -0500 From: "Michael Aimino" Subject: Re: [db] parts for sale > On Sat, 27 Nov 2004, Michael Aimino wrote: > > >-->Mercedes parts for sale. The original owner of my 89 300CE had a Sony sound system installed. Cassette deck, amp for the rear speakers, and a 10 disc CD unit hanging in the trunk from the rear window shelf. I'm not a big fan of the Sony controls, the CD changer stopped working a while back, the LCD display on the head unit succumbed to the heat, and the blasted thing decided not to eject a cassette, so it was about time to stop being the cheapskate that I am and do something about it. Went to Frys Electronics on Friday to see what kind of Crazy Eddie specials they were running for the holiday (Thanksgiving, for those of you outside the US). Although I wasn't early enough to catch some of the really crazy deals on hard drives and battery backups, they still had a Clarion DB345MP AM/FM/CD that would play MP3s (and didn't have one of those video game displays) on sale for 79 bucks, normally almost twice that price. I installed that puppy this afternoon, and it's just loverly. I didn't do the neatest job with the wiring. Had to rip apart some of the existing stuff since the amp was in the front passenger footwell; I left the unplugged amp and CD changer in; I just crimped butt connectors on everything, but I did manage to find an "illumination" feed going to the ashtray light so all the radio buttons light up when I turn the lights on, even if the radio's off. I'm able to fit nearly a dozen albums on one disc, and the radio will display the folder and file names or the MP3 ID3 data tags. Now I just have to start organizing and transferring my 35+ GB of MP3s onto discs and I'm all set for fun. Never did get around to replacing the ignition wire tray, though. ;-) Hope all of you and your Benzes had a great weekend, Alec Cordova Taylor, Texas 89 300CE, 178K ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #1630 **********************************
