I can't help you on the right way, but can lead you in a direction that's worked for me. Rubbing alcohol... I've used it on the windshield many times and it does clean it well. How well? After the glass is dry, it squeaks when you rub your finger across it. That appears to be pretty clean to me. I don't see why it wouldn't work on all the glass. If you have aftermarket window tint, I don't think alcohol will hurt it. You have to do the glass in sections otherwise it will do as you mention. It usually takes at least 2 passes to get it thoroughly clean. And, yes, I'm a smoker so the glass gets dirtier than normal. But, all the German cars I've owned have "outgassed" years after the newness has worn off which has contributed to the hazing. (myself included)... found out that once you start using that kind of stuff you have to keep on doing it or the vinyl deteriorates very quickly... :( as far as keeping your glass clean if you're a smoker... not sure it'll ever come out completely unless you completely shampoo everything in the car... and even then, sit it in the sun and it'll haze up again... I would plead with you to quit smoking for two reasons: 1) you're ruining your car 2) well, let's just say that I'm missing a large number of people who checked out a lot earlier than they should have because of those things... both parents, two grandfathers... co-worker in his 30's, another friend in his early 30's... just buried a cousin... he was in his early 40's... I'm sure others are suggesting this to you... we care... serious. my 72 year old neighbor only smoked for a few years when he was younger and is now suffering terribly from emphysema... it's a shame, he works his farm every day... but he hasn't got the ability to breath... From what I remember, the Volvo Diesel engine was a joint venture between Volvo, Audi and Renault. I may have the players wrong, but I couldn't find the answer on Google. In January of '90, I decided my '81 Rabbit LS diesel was getting a bit too small so I looked into getting another diesel. MB was not importing any diesels into this country and the local Fort Worth dealer didn't have any used ones on the lot. I looked at a couple of used BMW's, but wasn't overly impressed and attempted to buy a Volvo. The Volvo salesman told me that GM had killed the diesel market. I don't know if you could take that general statement as the gospel truth, but GM sure didn't help matters any. I ended up with a '90 Jetta diesel... At least VW had the guts to offer a diesel when all the other manufacturers, including MB, chose to hold back.
