I thought of getting on the FSJ list but there is WWWWAAAYYY to much volume for me to read. Sorta like another Benz list I'm on. ;) I enjoy this list because it's mildly entertaining and deals with a wider spectrum of diesel power. If I subscribed to all the lists of cars I own it would be: Diesel MBs Volvos Wagons Diesel Volvos FWD Turbo Mopars FWD L-bodies - Omnis/Chargers/ FWD trucks - Rampages/Scamps FSJs VW diesels Opel Diesel ? Come to think of it, I AM subscribed to most of those! I read this one and the D24(Volvo) list as they are entertaining and pretty low in volume. The others require a lot of sifting through - I can only handle so many 'speaker size' and 'what lights/oil to use' topics. While MB diesels are solid, reliable, etc...., there are other fine diesels out there - some are usually wrapped by a crappy body(Early VWs and early Dodge/Cummins pickups come to mind). But - it never hurts to 'remind' us what this list is actually for. Waylon Black Little Elm, Texas Date: Wed, 12 Jan 2005 16:22:31 -0500 From: "Jim Hoffman" Subject: Re: [db] 75 Cherokee Offtopic? Well, I for one don't get too excited about this... Certainly this vehicle is neither Mercedes nor diesel powered. I have one MB diesel, one Ford diesel and three old Willys wagons. I enjoy the banter about creating the ultimate Jeep diesel ;) Yes, there are FSJ specific lists... Most of the cars of that vintage (116, 123, some 126) didn't have the block heater installed, but instead there was a coupon for installation in the owner's manual. I can't remember if it was the whole heater that was not installed, or just the cord. Position is the same as any other 617 you may be used to, though the cord routing may be different 115 vs 116 vs 123 vs 126. Some dealers in the north (where you'd expect a block heater to come standard) installed them as part of the dealer prep. Not sure if they took the coupon out of the owner's manual :) If it's just a matter of getting the cord, I have the part number written down somewhere, or you can call up someone with an EPC that will sell you Mercedes parts (Rusty, Randy, dealer, etc). (plus new & old Q's) Hi folks, So since I bought the car a year ago, I've had the usual assortment of things to fix, new alternator, new belt, new battery, new front tyres, new injector pipe from pump to injector (had it custom made for half the $$ the stealership wanted), all fuses changed, new inline filter (I clogged the old one after it ran out of diesel.. I thought the reserve tank would be bigger...). So, now... my next bits to fix... 1)Where can I get new glowplugs and what should I be looking to pay for them? Are they easy to replace? Is a new intake manifold gasket needed while doing this? (need to do this soon as it's getting harder to start in the mornings) 2)I've a bit of a rattle after starting from cold, it goes away after its had a rev above 3.5k rpm, is this the "loose timing chain" prob I've heard about? Is this a DIY job? 3)Engine shocks are a bit noisy when at idle, do these wear out or is it just the bushings that need replacing? 4)I've been leaving the key in the ignition for the last week as it's gone a bit hairy and I don't want to have the steering lock engauge (spl?) as I've read it can stick... permanently! So, I've read up on how to fix it, but I can't get the cylinder barrel out of the dash... I've put 2 pins/small allen keys/filed down coathanger into the slots (when the key is in pos 1) and still can't get the barrel out... apart from taking off the decorative ring from around the key hole, is there something else to remove (like the black bit that has the position 1,2 and 3 marks on it???), if so, how is this done? Any help appreciated!!! SE/SELs with a non-removable trailer hitch were allowed to pull 2635 kg (5809 lb), but you had to do some paperwork to get it enlisted in your official car documents. Without paperwork or with a removable hitch, you could tow 1900 kg (4189 lb). SECs were rated at 1500 kg (3307 lb). Johns W124 is specified with 1900 kg. A new intake manifold gasket will allow you to take the intake off, requiring less contortion, and arguably less time total. Rusty's site seems to want about $13.50 each for 601 plugs, with Bosch and Beru being about the same price. Given that they are both overseas companies and the dollar has sunk WRT everything european, it shouldn't be too expensive. > 2)I've a bit of a rattle after starting from cold, it goes away after > its had a rev above 3.5k rpm, is this the "loose timing chain" prob > I've heard about? My car has done that for quite some time - maybe since about 180-190k or so, can't remember. > 3)Engine shocks are a bit noisy when at idle, do these wear out or is > it just the bushings that need replacing?
