No oil visible in the coolant but as precaution installed new cap on overflow bottle. My experienced parts dealer advised not necessary to change rad hoses on a regular basis. If they are still plyable and showing no cracks he would leave them alone. On my previous W201 did not change hoses during the 12 years of ownership and the current owner is driving the car now another 2 years without hose change. Bought already another water pump but as loss not major did not install the new yet. Viewed the underside of the pump with a mirror and no traces of coolant. Understand MB water pumps lasting longer than e.g. VW ones. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Jan 2005 01:58:16 +0000 From: Bruce Caruthers Subject: Re: [db] dashboard lights Thanks to all for the suggestions and advice. All my fuses look nice and clean (despite a decade without a cover), although I did discover that my trunk gasket is not keeping the rain out any more... It seems that the problem is the lights switch itself -- hadn't realized the right-side parking lights were out as well until I was checking all the connections today. If I can find the time, maybe I will try to tear the switch apart and see if it is fixable. Otherwise, I will be finally going on my little shopping trip to get a new switch, new taillight circuit board (right side), maybe new trunk gasket, and fusebox cover (hopefully with diagram inside). I guess Benz Friendz is the best place around here? Or is there somewhere up this way? What with all the crawling around under the dashboard, now my driver's seat has the vinyl splitting in a couple of places. :( Anyone have any suggestions on a way to fix or at least halt this? (Other than duct tape...) I'm assuming replacement vinyl is either unavailable (at least in matching color) or prohibitively expensive. I believe Aurora Auto Wrecking is down by 145th or so... it's just a bit south of the Krispy Kreme, or wait, is it north? :) oh, look it up... ;) john >--> >-->Thanks, >--> -bkc >-->'76 MB 240D (115) >-->'00 MB ML320 >-->Lynnwood, WA >--> >-->On Thu Jan 20, 2005, Jim Hoffman wrote: >-->> >-->> Well, knowing how much trouble I've had with fuses in MB's, if it >-->> were me I'd get me a fusebox cover post haste. I've been paying for this site out of my own pocket for several years, can't really justify the expense any more. If I rehost it I would want it on a Linux/UNIX system so I could ssh in and run apache. If you have a place to host my site, please let me know what you would charge. It's has about 4 gig of files on it right now... log files can be viewed at: http://wagoneers.com/john/logs/ One option is to offer subscriptions to cover the cost of the server, I suppose advertising is always an option too, although both are a lot of extra work. I'm not sure if anyone would be willing to pay to access the site anyway, unless I put more effort into it. Lots of folks have offered to make contributions, and a few have, but it just doesn't feel right to me to operate it that way. The sticker sales do not cover the costs of operating the site... I'm not sure they've covered the cost of printing at this point. :) This is a hobby gone out of control, not a business. I've got a handful of folks interested in purchasing the domain, the highest offer so far is $1,000. Of course that didn't include the FSJ logo/stickers with the domain name on it, or content. I'm open to ideas, suggestions, offers... thoughts... I probably should get a different domain name since I don't just cover Full Size Jeeps anymore, but Diesel Benz, XJ Cherokees, WJ's, UNIX/Linux and so on... thanx for the feedback so far, I'm sure the technical content I've gathered over the years will remain on the internet somewhere... I've been trying to resize images, remove unnecessary gunk and clean things up in preparation of moving/downsizing. :) The FSJ, XJ and DieselBenz lists will of course continue on without interruption... And of course I still have an inordinate amount of material gathered for a book on the full size jeeps... :) later, john please email me at dieseljohn-at-comcast.net about this. ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Jan 2005 18:19:01 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: [db] OT - linux hosting with shell access? started looking at different hosting solutions... any cheap hosting sites that offer shell (ssh) access?
