I have flushed the system, replaced the thermostat, brought the water temp to over 80C with the heater on and expansion cap off. Now I seem to be loosing coolant. I don't think it's a leak, but there's too much trapped air in the system. When I turn the heater on , it makes a growling sound and then operates. It sounds like there's air in the system. Thanks in advance for your help. Mark __________________________________ Celebrate Yahoo!'s 10th Birthday! Yahoo! I guess the incline helps move any trapped air toward the bleedable points. Alec Quoting mark sorros : > Hi, > > What is the best way to remove trapped air from my > coolant system? I fill that up with water first then reattach to the radiator. I finish the job using filling at the expansion tank on the fender. Derick - -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Damn pipe cost $160 from the Mercedes dealer - it was a fancy piece. Has a bellows in the middle of the down section. I guess, so the engine can vibrate more than the exhaust. But it also made it easier to snake the thing down between the engine and firewall :). When I undid the old pipe under the car, about a half cup of water poured out. Strange. The car had been sitting for about a week, and there had been some serious rain during that time.... I also asked the parts guy for all the connection parts - bolts, nuts, gaskets. This added another $50 or so to the tab. He gave me one pricy- looking seal that was not needed: at the top, the pipe is just a taper-fit onto a steel piece at the aft end of the bellows that goes to the turbo. The tapers were stuck tight, and I could not get it off. Lucky, I'd gotten 220V into the garage the previous weekend: this enabled me to run my big compressor for the first time in six years, and that let me use an air hammer to persuade the old pipe loose. Then it was a straightforward job to bolt everything up. When I started the car, I was surprised at how quiet and smooth it had gotten. Next job is to replace the AC clutch - well, after I R&R the head on my wife's -at-#$%-at-#$% jaguar.
