Just find a good wrecking yard - I have a deal with a local yard that I can take the whole car, strip the pieces that I need and bring back the carcass. I need to get by there and see what is in inventory. ;) I also look at the back lots of used car dealers - bought a 1982 240D with a bad motor for $150. The odds of the engine and trans failing at the same time are pretty remote. For my $150, I have used the A/C compressor on the 1983 300 SD, the starter for the 1980 300 SD, and the alternator for the 1982 240D. (for example, BioD made from palm oil has one of the higher cloud points.) note that BioD made from Rapeseed (as is common in the EU) is listed as having lower usability temps than the stuff made from the Soy that is being pushed here in the US by the Ntl Biodiesel Board. Emptied it by hand and used the high lift to get it up to level... when I tried to pull the '83 GMC Jimmy up to the trailer I got buried up to the running boards in muck. Of course I'd been in and out of it three times already... but this time when trying to rock the trailer out of the trench after unloading it there was a load BANG and the front wheels quit turning... I used the high lift to move the jimmy sideways a bit but it appears to be a 2wd unit right now... I figured this out by setting a rock on top of the front tire, getting in and smoking the rear tires. :) I suspect I blew a u-joint... or worse threw the chain in the xfr case... either way I need someone to either drag the trailer out of the way (backwards) and then give me a tug so I can get free of the muck and drive out in 2wd... Not a big rush to get it out of the back yard or anything... Only problem is I was thinking of taking the Jimmy down to the Puyallup 4x4 Moonshiner swap meet tomorrow. :) Anyway have pictures... pictures of the truck and tractor eating back yard. Last weekend it was a 10 yard dump truck that got stuck... this week both my truck and trailer. :) If you're out and about tomorrow afternoon about 2pm I have chain and tow staps... getting the trailer out will be the trickiest since it's backwards... getting the jimmy out may require my neighbor's backhoe... :) at least we got the trench draining the spring filled with drain rock... one more load and we're ready to start grading and bringing in topsoil... been working on routing water for years... we might just have it all worked out... and now we have a drought. ;) My neighbor (a WJ owner) came over and scolded me, saying what was I thinking trying to do this without a Jeep. She IS SO right! I've never gotten my self this wedged with either my FSJs or XJs... at least not that I couldn't get out with a little help from one of my other vehicles. And never have they blown a u-joint... or worse when stuck like this. :) I'm tired... emptied 2 trailer loads of 1-1/2 drain rock with a shovel to free the trailer. :) Ah yes, country living... need to get my Jeeps home... The Willys should be showing up any day... the J10 might be reassembled this year...
