This is cheap basic transportation for the people who are handy with tools. The car currently needs NOTHING mechanically to be used as everyday transpo. It DOES need tabs. I am on the fence about letting the insurance company have the car to crush. I was wondering if anyone wanted a nice running '79 300sd with a nice tight trans, a good running engine and a rear end that has been crushe by a ranger pickup. It is still drivable, but has a smashed rear deck, trunk lid and rear left quarter. The car needed new rear struts, and new window regulators for the two front windows before the accident. but if anyone needs a good engine, or any body parts forward of the rear window, I have a deal for you! I need $250 for the whole thing, I can not part it out where I am.(covenents and restrictions ) It is still drivable, it has a nearly perfect interior (blue leather) drivers seat was a bit "sprung" dash had a couple of cracks. the wood is nearly perfect, however. I seem to remember John, in my neighborhood had a coupe with a bad engine, if this seems like something you may want, contact me on or off list, I will be calling the insurance company on monday morning and letting them know if I want them to pay me the extra 250 or if I want to keep the poor thing, so let me know soon if interested. Will check it all out and pull the engine/trans and start looking for an XJ that needs "motor"vation... Next step will be figuring out a divorced xfr case setup or making an adapter. Problem is finding a nice clean XJ that actually has a bad engine... those 4.0L's are pretty incredible... I suppose I could find a mid-80's vintage that has the crappiest engine ever put in a Jeep... the chevy 2.8L V6... problem is the engine bay may not be long enough for the 5 cylinder Diesel... will have to measure it vs. the 4.0L. The 4.0L will not fit in the pre'87 xj's. I need to get rid of the '83 Jimmy with the 6.2L real soon... The '58 Willys wagon is due home soon too... this could get interesting real soon... Wait... I might be able to hide a car in the parking garage at work... If you know of anyone that needs parts for a 116 send them my way, in order to keep the wife happy I'd like to break even on the cost of the car and the shop hoist... also have some 123 parts to part with as well... soon as my son mails them home... ;) I should have pictures on or around Sunday... if anyone is interested in the entire body that's always a possibility too... Shouldn't take me more than a day to have the engine/trans out of this thing along with all the related plumbing. I'd rather strip it to the bone though so I have everything for a conversion.... I don't know why I like stripping cars like this... but I do... it's fun... :) Hmmm... I wonder if I can transplant the sunroof to my J10... ;) If the Willys didn't have a good six cylinder in it already I'd give serious thought to using this Diesel in it... but we'll see... if I like driving the Willys I might just use it there... so many possibilities... :) john On Thu, 17 Mar 2005, Paul Masterson wrote: > -->Hello all, > --> > --> I had the misfourtune to get rear ended last tuesday in my '79 300sd.
