I've been thinking about a 90 or 91 300SL with a manual transmission, but only because they exist. A turbo 602 or 603 SL with a manual would be my definite choice, and I also would be completely incapable of creating such a beast myself. I don't remember my exact feelings about the liberty, but I do recall that I liked the Toureg... If my veggie oil setup works out I may be driving my J10 and Jimmy more often because of the costs, etc. My wife for some strange reason actually likes riding in the Jimmy... and since it's actually a "passenger" vehicle it's suitable for family use. In fact we traveled across the states in the one we had before, also a 6.2L Diesel. If the J10 works as well as expected with the 6.2L Diesel and the new 700R4, well, I won't be driving the Benz nearly as much... if we keep the Jimmy for a passenger unit, Diesel powered of course, then that's another strike against the 300D. The third strike for the benz is the seats... my wife's back does not like the seats in the 300d... I'm not fond of them, but they're better than what's in the Jimmy... so we'll see what the summer unravels... Now that I have my email fixed I need to get the '79 300SD back out there for sale, finish fixing the '86 and '92 xj and see which one my daughter wants so we can reduce the cars in the driveway... ;) only have: '99 wj, '91 300d, '92 xj, '86 xj, '75 j10 trailer, '91 grand am, and the '79 300sd... oh yeah, and in the next week or so the '83 jimmy, and then hopefully not too long after that, the '83 J10 stepside... (only two drivers... ;) john Kevin Pekarek wrote: >> On Tue, Jun 14, 2005 at 07:20:53PM -0700, john meister wrote: >> > >>>>y'all are awful quiet... ;) was wondering if anyone had seen or test >>>>driven either a Liberty Diesel >>>>or a VW Toureg with the Diesel... > >> >> >> I thought you had. >> >> K ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Jun 2005 22:38:09 -0700 From: john meister Subject: Re: [db] diesels one of the guys on the wj (yahoo) list has one, speaks well of it, but still prefers his wj... john Marc wrote: >> Nope. Any gotchas on this one? Mileage is a bit high, but otherwise looks pretty nice. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4556984610 I was thinking of bidding up to about $4,000, maybe $4,500? (Although they apparently rejected the previous bidder's high of $5,300. See: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4553100545) I suppose I could hold out for a 2.5 602, but every day I wait is that many more miles and premium gas used by my wife commuting in the ML... By the way, why do so many W124 300D's (at least on eBay) seem to have cracked dashes? My '76 240D's dash is still pliable and uncracked after 17 years in NY and 11 in CA, so why are these newer ones cracked? It looks to be in pretty good shape. Seats and interior look great. However... Original airbag is technically past its expected life. Same for the original first aid kit. Anybody want some 18-year-old, California sun-baked aspirin? Air conditioning needs work. Engine and undercarriage are too clean to see what leaks; this puppy's been powerwashed. Unclear what's new in the fuel injection system, and why did somebody dig into the wiring harness in that photo? No mention about replacing the suspension rubber, and the photos don't let you see if the tires have uneven wear. Apparently, the blue MB dashes like to crack. Been that way since at least the 70's or 80's. The black ones hold up incredibly well. He says the reserve is just under the Buy It Now price, so I'd guess no less than $5750 if he's already had to mark it down once. It certainly looks like it's worth paying somebody for a proper prepurchase inspection. Alec Quoting Bruce Caruthers : >> Any gotchas on this one?
