Well, aside from the ALDA tweak, fiddling with the turbo to get more boost isn't really going to do anything until you add more fuel. Adding more fuel beyond the ALDA tweak is ill advised unless you have an EGT gauge and an intercooler. I do not know if MB oil pumps can create high over-pressure, not familiar with the pressure regulation mechanism, but on other vehicles they are spring loaded ball valves that bleed off excess pressure and they can stick shut. Anyone else have any ideas? My 300D engine leaks were all traced to bad re-assembly of head by PO and perished gaskets or sealant on the timing cover and the oil pan. I have another injector to install, if that doesn't fix the problem it's off to a shop with a computer and injector cleaner and whatever it takes to make it right... It's a nice clean XJ but without options. Barebones unit. I'll be asking $3,000 for it, book value is higher if I recall. It's got an alarm, CD player, hitch and nice tires/rims. It does not have A/C and that's why my daughter probably won't want it. If she doesn't like the '86 Cherokee Chief, it'll be going next. It's also real nice... Looks like the Jimmy will be coming home later next week... a good transmission, tilt wheel and functioning gauges... will set it up to run Veggie oil and may get it repainted... The 6.2L Diesel is hanging on the engine hoist in the Centralia Monster Garage hovering over SuperDawg's frame... won't be much longer now... :) yee haw.... After the Jimmy and SuperDawg is back I'll be thinning the herd a bit more... will need to decide if I'm keeping the '91 300D and/or the Jimmy... the J10 is a no-brainer... If the Jimmy sticks around it might get a heart transplant into a Grand Wagoneer... but there are four Jeeps waiting for wrench time before that happens... :) john ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Jun 2005 06:11:36 +0000 From: Bruce Caruthers Subject: Re: [db] parking space just opened up... Check it by sticking a pressure gauge on the manifold, and roaring up the hill. I know I've been telling myself and others that my next (6th) Benz would be another diesel, but this 91 300SL with manual tranny keeps calling to me. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=183717447 It's in Beaverton, Oregon. Anyone on the lists near there that could take a look or recommend an appropriate shop for a thorough pre purchase inspection? The price either suggests that the car is not in perfect shape, or it's just private-party selling price instead of dealer price. Please help me find out which. A 617 turbo, like a 603, should catch just shy of a bar of boost (.8-.9 is the spec, and if your gauge is in uncivilized units (as Ron puts it), figure 14.7 psi is a bar). Granted, you'll only catch full boost under heavy load, like floored uphill. Going over that spec would require an EGT gauge to ensure you're not making piston soup.
