I had a new line made up by an engineering shop for 40 euros (the line MB supplied didn't fit!!!). Up ahead I saw brake lights, backed off the go pedal and then watched one of the cars kind of stop real fast then bounce... I figured that wasn't a good thing and threw out the anchor the rest of the way leaving a Subura and additional space ahead of me... and then I saw smoke and then steam and then pieces of Chevy Blazer flying all over the place... I hung back for a second and watched the group move to the shoulder... well... all but the blazer... It tried reverse and didn't move... not sure why... it should have... The Ford Pickup didn't show any damage. The Towncar had pretty serious rearrangement of the front and back. The Blazer of course was immobilized, kind of feel bad for the driver, really ruined her day... Not sure what happened since I couldn't see that far ahead... really looking forward to doing this commute in a truck where I sit up high enough to see over events like this. The Benz is a great car and very safe, but I have yet to find a lift kit for it. ;) What's interesting though is the fact that the KJ didn't appear to have any significant damage. The picture I took was pretty far away, but it drove over to the shoulder without trouble and certainly appeared to be intact. It took the full hit of the chevy too, and rearranged the trunk of the towncar... Kind of wish I'd paid more attention, but from what I saw in passing the KJ Jeep help up very well. Well, I'm off to Amsterdam... packing right now and fly out at noon on Saturday, arrive at 8am on Sunday... after 10 hrs of flying... not sure how that math works out. :) I'll be setting up a server all day Monday, yes, on the 4th of July... seems the Europeans don't consider that a holiday over there. ;) Looks like it'll be a solid 10 hr day too... I hope to have off Tuesday and am going to visit some wrecking yards in search of Euro Style lights for my '91 300D. :) Of course with no money this could be merely entertainment. :) I've been toying with the idea of visiting places I was stationed in Germany, it's only about 4 hrs down the Autobahn... Turns out my uncle was also stationed over there and it might be cool to get pictures of Manheim for him... :) I'll try to check email from the hotel. Staying in Amstelveen at the Grand Hotel. Hope y'all have a great weekend... I'll be working or flying most of it... come back on Wednesday. Oh yeah, my fuel transfer pump showed up today! :) Soon as the Jimmy gets back I'll be filling the tank with waste veggie oil... :) later, john - ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 2 Jul 2005 10:03:41 +0000 From: Bruce Caruthers Subject: [db] Service Manuals So, where/how do I get a copy of the service manual CDs? I've heard the eBay ones are to be avoided. The only one I saw there is apparently a massive, overly complex central database/client system for large repair shops. And how much do the CDs cost? I would need them for at least my 115, and for whichever 124 I end up acquiring. (And if I can find an R129 manual, I can start looking into whether my harebrained diesel transplant idea is even remotely workable) Anyone I cna split the cost with? John?
