Greetings... it's 0630hrs just south of Amsterdam on the 4th of July. I'm working today... and it's raining here... I mean raining, not like it does in Seattle, it's real rain. It's 9:30pm in Seattle still the 3rd of July even. :) It's more beautiful here than I remember it from the '70's. I'm going to check on Mercedes parts prices over here if I get time. I've been seeing a fair number of Jeeps of all kinds here. WJs, KJs, XJs, even at least one very nice SJ. What is really amazing to me are the multitude of strange little cars. When I say little I mean little. The length of them is about the width of a Jeep. Other than the height we could almost put them into the back of an FSJ. :) I'll try to photograph them and go to dealerships to learn more about all the cars. There is a Citroen dealership in Amstleveen, several stories in fact. Well, hope y'all have a great holiday, I'm off to work. john - ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 04 Jul 2005 07:19:34 +0000 From: dieseljohn-at-comcast.net Subject: RE: [db] Euro head lights BTW, anyone have the part numbers for the European style for the early '90's 123? I'm not sure what the exchange rate is here, I've been using my American Express card and haven't touched a single Euro. It's close to one to one from what I gather. And things are quite expensive here in Amsterdam because of the conversion to Euros. Seems that when they made the change they said they wouldn't raise the prices that had existed in Gilder to Euros. But within a year it happened. So items that were priced reasonably in Gilders before are now expensive in Euros. Funny how that worked. :) Anyway, I'm heading home a day early, leaving for the airport now, but wanted to share the fuel costs here. Funny how that worked. :) Do not forget that Europe commonly taxes the snot out of gasoline to fund things not necessarily related to cars. Some right wing americans would say they were funding communism, but it's probably more like socialism than anything. Anyways, that is a large portion of the discrepancy. I'm told that stripping the taxes out of the fuel in europe and stripping the fuel taxes stateside gives a fairly similar price per liter or gallon.
