I don't have either part you're looking for, but if your car is a 124 (86-95), the fan blades are dependent on the fan clutch - there is a cutoff date sometime in the late eighties where the clutch was changed, and because of this, the fan blades were changed to accomodate. They are not interchangeable. Of my two 87s, one seems to be the newer style and one seems to be the older style. Good luck. The radiator core was pushed into the fan blades and nicked it. The radiator is now repaired, and I heli-arc welded the fan blade ring where it had broken, but unfortunately it didn't hold, and broke again. The bumper was also bent up pretty well, and will need to go to the body shop. Luckily, it didn't get into any body panels at all, but I will need the metal bumper part(s) to have welded on. I'm hoping someone either has same of these parts in their garage, or a used part dealer or a friend of theirs on the list will pipe up. Portland has several Benz boneyards, I have not used any but John may have had some experience with them. Good luck! I put wagoneers.com back on line yesterday at lunch time. DNS is resolving it from a few places as of midnight. I'm still having some issues with email from comcast and digest.net to my server, but am receiving real email from a handful of sources, some aren't even spam! :) The webserver does appear to be working, however I'm still trying to configure JohnMeister.com to work properly. I may have lost a few digests, unless I can get a restore from where the server had been hosted before. I haven't heard from Richard at mbz.org /vrx.net for a couple of weeks. I'll try to give him a call first chance I get. I was in Amsterdam over the 4th and heading to Tokyo at the end of the month so I've been quite busy. vehicle status: - - shadowfax, still getting 30mpg, ran my second 5 gallons of wvo through him without problems, wonderful smell. Filtered at 15 to 30 microns this time. New pump coming from Northern Hydraulics, the 12v transfer pump originally received was apparently defective. - - superdawg... the 6.2L Diesel is on a hook hanging over the chassis... I'm going to order a new 4 row radiator designed for chevy conversions in FSJs! - - the Jimmy - curtis is going to swap the tranny and fix the ps pump and send it back home... it'll come with the extra tanks from the 3/4T gmc and my old fuel selector valve, going to test the commute using only wvo in preparation for using Superdawg as the daily driver. - - white 92 xj sport - bought four new injectors, installed last night, but #6 went in hard and I screwed up the o-ring, gas all over the place... need to fix tonight, then it's up on craigslist for sale. :) - - blue 86 xj chief - ready to go, just need to take pictures, fixed the strange noise, lubed the u-joints, much better now, they're tight and solid, just dry from sitting. Might try to get the a/c working better, but otherwise it's clean, not green (jim. ;) and ready to find a new home. Well back to sys admin stuff... john ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Jul 2005 15:03:07 -0500 From: "Clark, Carl F" Subject: [db] Exhaust rattle problem My '81 300D has been experiencing what is best described as a godawful rattle at idle over the last few days...I was beginning to draw stares in parking lots. I suspected something exhaust-related, and I was able to confirm my diagnosis last night. The U-bolt exhaust support that attaches to or near the transmission housing (not sure precisely what this is called once installed, but it appears to be repairable with what the online parts catalogs call an "exhaust mounting kit") had worked loose, so loose in fact that one of the nuts that holds the U-bolt on is missing. I can tell this is the culprit, because I can see it rattle from under the car, and when I grab it (before the pipe heats up) the noise stops. It looks simple enough to repair, but my question is this. Until I can get the part(s), do I: 1) Remove it temporarily -- the U-bolt goes up and over the pipe to hold it down to the supporting member, so the pipe shouldn't sag (although it might then vibrate against the support and cause just as much noise); 2) Get a nut from the hardware store to tighten the U-bolt temporarily until I can get the new part in; or 3) Just keep driving it and put up with the noise (and the wrath of my neighbors, and the possibility of drowning out other, more serious noises)? I'm leaning toward option 1, since to use option 2, I'd almost have to remove it anyway to get the extra nut/washer I need to fix it temporarily, and then put it back, only to remove it when the real thing arrives. So if you've driven without this piece for any length of time, without serious bodily and/or automotive harm, let me know. If there was any rubber there, it's gone now. I am also planning to replace those rubber donuts while I'm at it--I've seen "hard compound" and "soft compound", what's the difference? - -----Original Message----- From: acordova-at-texas.net [mailto:acordova-at-texas.net] Sent: Thursday, July 14, 2005 3:28 PM To: Clark, Carl F Cc: diesel-benz-at-digest.net Subject: Re: [db] Exhaust rattle problem Shouldn't that one just use some rubber donuts?
