Why a LOWER stall TC? I thought my 85 300D's OM617 was mated to a TC with a stall near or above 2000rpm. That motor would spin up to about 4800rpm. I would think similar numbers would be correct on an OM616 240D motor. Alec Quoting john : > On Wed, 27 Jul 2005, Jim Blair wrote: > > >-->It will IF you get a lower stall converter. I'm hoping that someone here might have a shop manual or has done this procedure before as I have a couple of simple questions that are holding me back. 1. I found a reference that said to change the metal bushing to the newer plastic one. Upon inspection, I can see what looks like the old metal bushing, but it is behind a grooved rubber bushing or seal. Before I go and dig out the rubber part and probably damage it in the process, I'd like to confirm that this is the correct thing to do. Also, does the rubber part get reused or is it part of the metal bushing that gets replaced? See "view from below" pic 2. On the new bushing, does the flange lay on the b2 piston or away from it? See "assembly" pic. 3. When I removed the B2 port cover, parts just dropped out. Amongst them was a small dog bone shaped metal shaft. It has two distinct ends, one has two notches on it, the other has only one. Does anyone know which end goes into the B2 and which into the tranny? See "dog bone" pic. 4. am I missing anything parts wise? See "assembly pic" which shows what I have and how I think it may go together. Here's some tips for people who've never done this procedure before that may help. 1. You MUST unbolt the drive shaft and an exhaust pipe holder in order to get the tranny to move side to side. Might seem obvious, but it took me a while to figure this out. 2. The B2 port cover is spring loaded, it can only move maybe .5 of an inch into the port, just enough to access the cir-clip holding it in. When you puch it with your hand and it stops, that's as far as it goes. I jammed a small socket extention between the tranny tunnel and the cover and it held the cover in place while I dug out the cir clip (NOT the type you can remove with needle nose pliers). I used a small pry bar to separate the clip from the groove then used a small screwdriver to keep it from going back in the groove. You must rotate the port cover in order to remove the cir clip as it has a retainer which will pin a small portion of the circlip down. 3. Tranny fluid will come out of the port once the cover is removed. Lucky for me my face wasn't directly under the port! Make sure to be clear of the port when removing the cover! If I come up with more tips, I'll post them here later.
