I have run about 100 gallons of B100 through my '95 E300D (doesn't take long for me) and was looking to compare numbers with others on the list who are running B100. I gathered a fair amount of performance and economy data before and after the switch and was a little surprised by the outcome. Every source I've read on biodiesel indicates that you should expect a slight decrease in power and economy because there is slightly less energy in biodiesel. Well, I have noticed no significant drop in performance as indicated by the stopwatch. The butt dyno tells me that I'm a little down, but barely. So, I was expecting about a 5% drop in power, and I would guess that I am seeing less that 2%. What I have noticed, however, is that my economy is down a little over 15%, from around 29.9 MPG to 25.3 MPG. To make sure it wasn't the car, I ran a few tanks of dino fuel through and it again returned to around 29.9 MPG. Is anyone else out there running B100 who is as anal as I am and documented the changes? I'd love to compare notes. Thanks, J.B. Can't say that I am as anal as you guys, not even close actually, but I have been running B100 since I got my 84 300d turbo in May (the guy who owned it before me was running dino-diesel and didn't care for the car so he hadn't done an oil change or anything else, nor did he know his mileage). As for running, the car runs great. Mileage is pretty good for as little as I drive and as much city driving as I do when I do drive. In town, I get ~350-375 miles per tank and on road trips I hit 400 easy. c On 8/30/05, Jim Hoffman wrote: > > As SOON as I can get time to get that old heating oil out of my plastic > barrels I'll be filling them with B100 and trying it in my F-350. JB, I'll convert my spreadsheet to HTML that logs shadowfax's numbers, if you have a spreadsheet on yours do the same... or email off list and I'll do it. I haven't noticed any decrease in power or economy when blending wvo into my tank, just a change in smells. :) (and a few leaks). I've parked the K15 for a bit. At it's current mileage it's netting about 26mpg cost wise vs the 30mpg for my 124. Until I can put my J10 on the road andd burn 100% veggied down I5 I'll probably stick to the Benz. John, At Laurelhurst Oil, Biod is going for $3.10/gallon. Not sure what Dr. Dan's is selling to members for, but it is probably about $3. And who knows what Chris Goodwin is charging... It's usually around the same as Laurelhurst. Any idea why the price jumped recently? It was as low as $2.96 for a while earlier this summer. It's not like there's a war on for our fuel. And I don't think hurricane's hit the Iowa Soybean fields all that often.... ;) c On 8/30/05, john wrote: > > JB, > > I'll convert my spreadsheet to HTML that logs shadowfax's numbers, if you > have a spreadsheet on yours do the same... or email off list and I'll do > it. > > I haven't noticed any decrease in power or economy when blending wvo into > my tank, just a change in smells. :) (and a few leaks). > > I've parked the K15 for a bit.
