Swappable Look at these engines. Would be perfect for Jeeps. Copy of the Land Rover TDI. Supposedly going to be making adapters for GM trans and others soon. I am going to keep in touch as I may be interested later in one for my ZJ. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=7997400962&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT Only problem would be for those in emissions checking places. I plan to move back the rural MN in a few months so that won't be a problem. (was: Re: [db] Rattling noise) (ignoring the fact that oil supply isn't replenishing itself at anywhere near the rate it's being used up...) when did Amsoil start making oil from vegetable stock? i had read that they buy their base stock for their synthetic oil from Mobil, and then do their own additive package...? cheers! e john wrote: > well, let's not fall for the chicken little stuff... > > technology has existed for years to make petro-like chemicals > from coal, waste products, organic material... for crying > out loud amsoil has been making synthetic oil from veggies > for years... > > so we don't pump it out of the ground, but grow it in Iowa... > > big deal. > > I've heard panic attacks like this before... we adapt, that's > what we do. > > Those of us with Diesels are in a better position. ;) > > but ever heard of this thing called ethanol? comes from > corn I hear, gas engines run on it... > > fear not, we have wheels and ideas. > > john ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Sep 2005 19:45:38 -0700 (PDT) From: "Jerry Kaidor" Subject: Re: [db] NAME OF CONTACT SPRAY for fuse blocks, etc? > HI , > ANYONE REMEMBER THE NAME OF THAT MOST EXCELLENT SPRAY/LIQUID > FOR USE ON DRY FUSEHOLDERS & WIRING CONNECTORS? *** Caig DeOxit? - Jerry Kaidor ( jerry-at-tr2.com ) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Sep 2005 22:26:23 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: [db] changed the oil, locks quit working... Ah yes, the joys of Rube Goldberg influenced designs... Changed the oil and fuel filters on the '91 300D... when I got done the central locks quit working... weird... checked fuses, traced vacuum lines... finally called paul, a fellow FSJ and Diesel Benz owner... in talking with him I remembered something that happened when I was priming the system... (*read: cranking the bloody daylights out of the thing until it started again...) ...that the alarm system tried to lock and unlock the doors a few times... it was chattering away over there quite unhappy with the whole process. That had to be it since I had checked every connector and vacuum line with in a three foot radius of the oil and fuel filters... :) That and the alarm still worked, as I found out when I opened the door when it was set and the doors were still unlocked... :) On the way back from an errand I hit a bump and the locks locked... that's when I called paul... paul used to be an alarm system pro and actually did all the hard prep work on shadowfax... (turned out the alarm he tried to install for me was the one I had out of superdawg that had apparently died from old age...) ... so all I had to do was buy a cheap unit at Fry's and connect it up... :) Which I did in the parking lot of Lloyd Center in Portland, but I digress... So, I pulled the alarm system out because it was either the relay to control the central locks or the alarm itself... replaced all the fuses, no change.. then I unplugged the alarm system, replugged it and put the car back together... next step was to go buy another alarm, maybe spend $49.95 this time, what the heck... anyway... grabbed the remote, pushed the buttons, and voila! it all worked as advertised... BUT WHAT is really wild is that the doors do NOT unlock any more after starting... which is something I programmed into this $39.95 alarm system months ago but it never took... I guess unplugging it reset it. :) (I don't like having the doors lock automatically when the car is started... because I usually set my case on the passenger seat, reach over start the car and head back into my office or the house for my latte... and when I come back it's really nice to be able to actually open the door again... :) Being locked out of your car in your own carport tends to be inconvenient, but better there than somewhere else I guess... Speaking about cheap alarm systems... funny thing happened while I was in Japan... my wife opened the Mercedes up with the key instead of the alarm key fob... then called me for help, so I have this very funny voicemail message of the car alarm going off and her talking to my daughter about how to shut it off... cracks us up... need to figure out how to record it... ;) ah yes, the joys of toys that make noise... john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Sep 2005 11:37:55 -0500 From: "Alec Cordova" Subject: RE: [db] NAME OF CONTACT SPRAY for fuse blocks, etc? That's the one! I was trying to remember it too, since the coolant level sensor, which is attached to my overflow tank, has gotten pretty crusty and has the low coolant dash light on most of the time. I figured I'd try some good cleaner before I give in and replace it (and break who knows how many plastic connector bits in the process). Of course, the details are secret (perhaps partially revealed once you give them your cash...) so it is impossible to actually assess the claims. http://www.dieselsecret.com/ I'm amused how sensationalistic they are about the dangers of biodiesel brewing. The tone of the whole site is pretty snake-oil like, but I figured I'd toss it out to the list...
