Swappable Allen, Since I happen to have quite a collection of old Land Rovers, all diesel, or in the process of being converted to diesel, I happen to know quite a bit about this engine. After BMW bought out Land Rover in the late 90's, they decided to stop producing 300TDi engines for use in the lower markets, i.e. 3rd World countries. The 300TDi was still considered a highly sought after engine in remote applications because it did not require the electronic injection control that it's replacement the TD5 engine required. Land Rover sold the production rights to this engine to a South American firm which re-engineered it from a 2.5 to a 2.8 and put a much larger turbo on it. Everything I have heard about this engine is great and I have actually gotten to ride in a truck that had one installed. As far as buying one on Ebay. I would skip that. You can go down to your local International dealer and buy the engine complete, including shipping for less that the buy me now price that the guy is advertising. You can even order it with either a Land Rover or, I think, a Ford bell housing. You mention emissions testing. The engine is specifically sold for off-road applications only, since it is not certified by the EPA for use in the US. I know of three mechanical firms here in the US that received cease and desist notices in regards to installing these engines in vehicles. If you are caught installing them in a road vehicle, it is a minimum $10,000 fine from the EPA. Not that, that would stop any of us, just makes getting a shop to do it for us tough. Check out East Coast Rovers website for some cool diesel modifications and discussion on this engine. http://www.eastcoastrover.com/Tdiconversions.html Cheers, Nick You Wrote: Look at these engines. Would be perfect for Jeeps. Copy of the Land Rover TDI. Supposedly going to be making adapters for GM trans and others soon.
