What is this? Wasn't there some kind of "solar engine" for cars around in the late 80's or early 90's too? I remember reading about it in the San Jose Mercury News, but can't remember how it worked. It was NOT a photovoltaic system though. I never heard anything more about it, but I seem to remember a blurb in the article implying or saying something about OPEC wanting to buy the rights so it would never see the light of day. Further checking revealed gp relay defective. Also could see that in the big fuse area the black housing did melt. No current output to the glow plugs. MB quoted Cdn $ 371.00 plus the usual 15% tax and delivery time about a week. Still had a used relay from the 2.2D and after a minor mod. was able to hook up this relay. Car started up immediately with only four plugs preheated but stumbled for about 30 sec.. Now I have time to look for a lower priced unit. Cheers ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Sep 2005 19:02:01 -0700 (PDT) From: bree kna Subject: RE: [db] emissions test results sorry, yes, Alec, the test was done at idle. i had driven the 3 miles to the test station from my work where the car had sat for 5 hours. i drove rapidly after the car reached a near-normal operating temperature as i've always heard it good to get things up to temp for the test. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Sep 2005 19:31:05 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: [db] jeeps, Diesel and taxes An update on the "turtle" project in AZ... turns out a porta-power is being used to fix the roof of the rolled XJ, so the 4.0L into the FSJ is scrubbed for now. (My son rolled a friend's XJ last weekend and the plan was to put the 4.0L from that XJ into the same friend's SJ, both Jeeps incidently were obtained off of the SJ/XJ lists! One in Houston, the other in LA. ;) My son is sacrificing the windshield on his '87 xj for his friend's... and going to remove all the windows, get a motorcycle helmet and drive his XJ to the trails that way. Still waiting to hear how SuperDawg is progressing, I haven't heard from Curtis in a while, usually when he goes silent like this he's working hard and long on something, hopefully it's the Dawg. :) Haven't had time to do much on the '99 WJ, of course with gas prices the way they are the wife doesn't drive it much anyway. I'm going to finish switching it over to 100% Amsoil in hopes of better economy. :) I sold my spare 4.0L to a friend at church, and another friend at church wants to buy the leftover core to rebuild for his Jeep. Meanwhile I've still got this very clean '92 xj sport with bad rings in #6 sitting here for sale at only $1,200. The blue '86 XJ Cherokee Chief is still sitting here too, my son decided to buy the GMC Jimmy with the 6.2L Diesel. So it looks like I'll have to put the XJ back on craigslist. :) I'm not moving real fast on that though because if the Jimmy leaves the only thing I have to move the trailer around with is this nice '86 XJ. Can hardly wait for SuperDawg... I'm stockpiling veggie oil like crazy... :) Changed the oil and fuel filters on shadowfax last weekend, no more veggie oil for the '91 300D. Didn't hurt anything, but not willing to take the chance. Getting 30mpg in town and it's running great. Speaking of Diesel, heard on the radio that the Republicans were trying to get the Diesel tax repealed to help truckers and school bus drivers: State House Republicans want to suspend the 31-cent gas tax for three months for truckers, farmers and school bus drivers. http://www.komotv.com/news/story_m.asp?ID=39238 Of course the Democrat governor has this to say: The governor says it's better to go after the oil companies rather than the state treasury. Of course komotv has some of the info wrong... the taxes are higher than that for Diesel, but it's a start... Diesel costs more than premium at most stations. Hey, off topic, but if any one knows how to make front page extensions work in IIS with ".dwt" files, please contact me off list, I got roped into helping a friend. thanx, john -at- wagoneers.com ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #1958 **********************************
