Let's see, temperature extremes, if I recall correctly, are from at least -30 to about 95... that's 125 degrees, right? (farenheit, it's less if you use celcius. ;) (did I spell that right???) here our coldest cold snap, which last maybe 36 hrs, is about 15 or 20 degrees... if the temperature gets over 90 people start dying... typically a hot, hot (dry) summer day might hit 85. So that's a normal swing of about 60 degrees... and I use synthetics... ;) (rofl...) john On Tue, 18 Oct 2005, Jim Hoffman wrote: >-->I have used Shell Rotella. Should fit nice behind my '83 J10 stepside. :) Also, someone mentioned that there might be a Mercedes Diesel with a manual trans available in the area soon... if it's a 4 banger, which I think it will be, then I could adapt it to this CJ2 and have a nice little Diesel powered CJ2. The CJ2 has a 2.0L Pinto 4 cyl with the stock manual trans now... In other news... progress is actually being made on SuperDawg! The cab insides were bedlined as was the bed... I start my 10 mile commute in 1 week and 2 days... dream job on the dreamliner, mixed emotions, love my current job and will miss the folks there, but the new job is even better... :) The euro lights on the 91 300d are working fine... nothing has melted, caught on fire or fried anything... yet. ;) still need to adjust the fog lights... Tough decisions... will I be able to keep my 300d, j10 AND a cj2 as well... stay tuned to this station... the wheels of saga keep turning... ;) So the plan is for my son to drive this up to Seattle: http://wagoneers.com/JEEPS/marks-48/ALL.html then drive this back: http://wagoneers.com/fotos/johns-cars/JimmyDiesel/ john current fleet: 91 300d, 99 wj, 83 gmc, 75 j10 trailer (off site: 83 j10, 67 j100) est. When I get a sec I'll take some pictures of my (almost completed) setup. I think the system will move oil around through the filters mostly with gravity. The hand pump is at the end of the system and will provide some suction to pull it through as well. My grandfather (an oil-field welder, and self-taught mechanical engineer... who invented a good amount of drilling technology) would be proud. My childhood memories of him and his fishing place are filled with contraptions like this. =) Better yet John, grab some of that free time and come up to see it. Drove the 300D to Madera the other day, and left it at the airport. So now I can fly into the Fresno area, and there will be a car waiting for me. We'll see how it does. The airport is out in the middle of nowhere, and there is a CHP station about 1000 feet away. So the car should stay where I left it. The airport admin said there's also a private security patrol that comes around once an hour. But it still felt wrong to leave it out there. Like abandoning an old friend. Like leaving a puppy in the woods. Will it be stolen? Will it be vandalized? Will the sun bake it to death? In preparation for the move I * Changed ALL the fluids, stem to stern. * Replaced the vacuum pump * adjusted the valves * put on four new tires and had the front end aligned. * got the AC working - replaced the compressor & recharged I left it with a windshield sun shield made of that bubble-wrap-with-shiny-surface stuff. Now that it's out in the Valley, might be nice to get it painted - that sort of thing is cheaper out there. I figure I can just get it resprayed the current color ( dark blue ). Nothing wrong with that blue, IMHO. So they wouldn't have to spray inside the trunk or in the door jambs. - Jerry Kaidor ( jerry-at-tr2.com ) ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #1992 **********************************
