Maybe I'm thinking of old American iron techniques, but you can always try backing up, then using only the parking brake to stop. That may engage the internal adjusters. Three possibilities. 1. worn shoes, and you'll have to pull the rear rotors to check. 2. rear shoes out of adjustment, and adjusting them is a royal PITA. 3. the cable setup is not installed correctly or adjusted correctly (this will be obvious from looking under the car) Or, the fourth option if it applies is that everything rusted up and you have to replace a lot of parts. Replacing those shoes is truly a religious experience. You will think that the person who designed the rear shoes was a spy from BMW that was trying to screw over mercedes by driving up repair labor costs. There is very VERY little adjustment in the cable setup itself. I'd probably check that everything is correct first, then hope it's number two and not number one since you do NOT want to get stuck messing with those springs through view holes (unless you are a proctologist by trade and can rebuild an engine through the tailpipe ). I had some issues with the parking brake. There is a US style starwheel adjuster reachable through one of the wheel bolt holes, this is accessible after removing the wheel and turning the drum until it aligns properly. I am not familiar with the 201, but It is worth taking a look. It is chamfered to fit the beveled surface of the bolt that holds it in position. If you put it on upside down, it may crack when you tighten the bolt.
