As usual, I don't really know what I'm planning on doing. :) I think the '91 300D with the 2.5L Turbo Diesel, 124 series is by far the best Mercedes I've ever owned. Most reliable, fasted Diesel, relatively simple in the aspect of support. It handles superbly well, and even can make it up the Snohomish Snowy hill climb!!! I almost didn't get to church on Sunday... took quite a bit of effort, but shadowfax clawed his way up to the top!!! I was impressed. If I can I'll keep him, but I'm really thinking about getting another XJ. If I can find one nicely equipped and clean it'll be perfect for my commute. The Benz is a bit high class for me. ;) Duct tape just doesn't match it's decor. ;) If my J10 were done I don't think we'd be having this discussion, but it's not, and I suspect it'll be at least a few more months... In the meantime I've been bitten by the Cherokee bug (again). Of course, maybe, just maybe, that '48 Willys CJ-2A that's heading north behind my son's '87 Cherokee right now... just might scratch the itch... I'll be up late tonight.... ETA is around 1 to 2 am... Ah, yes, the original question... I know what the bluebooks say, but what's my Benz 'really' worth? Just installed real European lights, it has all new tires, new brakes with cross drilled power slotted rotors, new water pump/aux pump/hoses/tstat, fresh oil change (all synthetics), JVC MP3 player (original stereo and amp retained), all the owner's manuals, even an alarm system with remote door locks! everything works... execpt the ASD, and I never liked it anyway... ;) I had two folks interested at around $8k, but of course I didn't sell it then... it's a beautiful car... excellent economy... fast, quiet... Y'all know that it is inevitable that I'm going to sell this car... when my J10 is done this car will sit... and that is simply NOT a good thing... these cars do NOT do well just sitting... and there's only one of me, can't drive all of 'em. ;) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Dec 2005 21:28:51 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: [db] Re: xj: Re: so what's it worth anyway? tell you one thing I will NOT do to my 48: http://seattle.craigslist.org/car/115856297.html and yes, white does seem to be the best, despite it not being a valid option for the year... guess I'll wait to see it tonight to see if it's fully restorable or not... it's got a CJ-3 windshield and a Pinto engine, so it's not 100% at this point... so white might be a good way of going and making it look as stock as I can, but not planning on winning any shows. ;) john On Mon, 5 Dec 2005, Aaron Storms wrote: > -->28 yrs for me...:) Thought white for the 48 was the best choice? My '83 J10 is still a couple months out from being done... sure, it was supposed to be ready on Labor Day... of 2001... but it's worth the wait... ;) Found out that the prices on the '91 300D's are really up... one lot was telling me how rare they are... I'm looking at one of his XJ's and he said he found one like mine on a lot for $10k. He also found one for about half that... but felt that I should easily get over $8k for mine... I may put it up on craigslist around 9.5K just to see what happens... and then kind of hope it doesn't sell until I do find a really nice Cherokee or get my J10 back. thankfully I don't need 30mpg in town any more... 10 mile commute is affordable with just about any kind of mileage... ;) so happy to be back at that large local aerospace company. btw, weather's back to normal... snow is gone... raining gently again... john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #2038 **********************************
