The Jeep Liberty is available with an Italian common rail turbodiesel. If that Jeep weren't widely recognized as funny looking and if it had better visibility from inside, John might not be in such a dilemma. Speaking of the CRD Liberty, Motorweek is scheduled to have a longterm update on theirs next weekend, or whenever it airs on your local PBS station. And AFAIK, the VW TDI lineup includes the Beetle, Golf, Jetta, Passat, and the big Toureg. I suspect the Germans will retain the lead in this for a little while. My guess is the next passenger diesels available here will be either more Benzes, or something from Audi or BMW, but everybody has stuff in the works. We get the ultra-low-sulfur fuel within another year or two. It's just a race between emissions regulations and diesel particulate emissions technology to see if we get a rush of availability soon. Also remember that all modern diesels are at least as computerized and non-DIY-friendly as modern gas engines. Willys heading to work on Saturday snapped a nice sunrise... http://wagoneers.com/fotos/2005/Dec-18-Willys-n-a-sunrise/ today after church Mark and I pulled the top off the Willys... we took it out for a test drive... needs a starter relay (jumped it)... also the "used" top we found at olympic didn't fit, going to have to buy a new one... :( the Willys ran quite nicely, but 2nd gear is in worse shape then the old top... went from 1st to massive grinding sounds as we slowed... he'd give up on 2nd and go for third then lug the engine slowly up to speed... ;) I still think I will put the slow moving vehicle emblem from my old tractor on the back of this thing... the tail lights are the size of tea cups... no brake lights, no seat belts, no wipers... no heat... the tires we put on it are pretty decent though, rode pretty smooth. of course the tires probably weigh more than the jeep. :) my son doesn't think I should get rid of my benz for another XJ... he's wanting one of these engines for a project too... I still think that this 2.5L Turbo Diesel would be sweet in an XJ... I wouldn't be surprised to hear that he's putting the 6.2L Diesel from the GMC into his '74 Javelin in place of the Ford 460... ;) It's a good thing that the 240D found a new home already... otherwise that engine/trans would be in this Willys... ;) ah yes... dreams and drivin' john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Dec 2005 11:52:27 +0000 From: Stephen Rigley Subject: Re: [db] What's available new? Steve:I see them all over S. America. Has the MB (made in Thailand I think) 2.7L version of the venerable 2.5L MB diesel that is my 124. Last trip to Argentina I was trying to find someone that could sell me the complete engine (cheap) with the thought of importing it as parts and dropping it into the 124. No luck yet, but I keep looking. And no, the Ssangyong is not imported to the USA, at least I have never seen one. Ride nice, I have used one in Argentina.
