I'm only sort of being funny. The only perkins four I've seen in a junkyard was IN a 77 pacer wagon, coupled [somewhat easily, actually] to a ford AOD. Naturally, I could not resist buying the hulk :) The wagon came with a two cubic foot box full of binders with receipts and documentation as to how he got the bloody thing in there. Memory serving me, mine is the marine (engine number has a (M) on it), but there is a land based one as well. I think they were used in forklifts and skidsteers (bobcats) and so on. Memory still serving me, the previous owner bought the core and rebuilt it. I still have that receipt from where he got it, the rebuild kit (if he actually did that), and where he got the perkins->ford adapter to run the AOD. Finding a 4x4 AOD in a junkyard is EASY, and they don't require any logic at all, unlike a 700R4 which needs at least a switch for the lockup. An AOD will take an NP208 and a BW1356(? - well, whatever the button push 4x4 transfercase was), but probably an NP203 or 205 out of a ford something would work as well. Might even be able to get a dana 20, but why, when you can run a 208 with lower gears? Will probably just go out and buy 2 or 3 metal drums this week, since I've given up finding a free source (now I have to dredge up the sources of buying them from this and other lists). The trying to find cheap/free parts and materials has been what is making this take so long (that and one *really* stubborn pipe connector that took a while to figure out a way to remove). So, I am just going to bite the bullet so I can just get the darn thing going. The actual processor is done, barring problems hooking it up to the drums as a wash system (and barring problems when it start running, but it is a fairly well-used design, so I don't expect anything more than leaks from not making things tight enough) Cheers, -bkc Lynnwood, WA '76 MB 240D [W115.117/616.916] '93 MB 300D 2.5 Turbo [W124.128/602.962] (replaces ML) '92 Toyota Celica GT (wife's old car) '00 MB ML320 [W163.154/M112.942] (to be sold) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jan 2006 07:19:06 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: [db] RE: eBay Favorite Search: transfercase (1987 Mercedes turbo diesel) FYI (I wasn't looking, a friend forwarded this to me...) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4607392091 ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jan 2006 09:28:14 -0600 From: acordova-at-texas.net Subject: Re: [db] RE: eBay Favorite Search: transfercase (1987 Mercedes turbo diesel) Quoting john : > FYI (I wasn't looking, a friend forwarded this to me...) > > http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4607392091 > ---- > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** > Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold > ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > > Oooh. Dayna is trying again to fix her poor, 81 diesel rabbit truck. This time we need to change the glow plugs. I wasn't there for the first attempt but am told that getting to the plgus in this machine is not so easy due the fuel injector. Anyone have any tips to removing it? Is a torque wrench needed to do so? Can other systems be damaged if the injector or injector lines are taken out? Is there an easier way to get at the plugs in this car?
