Hello all, I hope someone can back up my diagnosis, here are the sympoms: My better half has an '84 300D turbo, and she said it sounded like it was dying on her when she stepped on the brakes, I get in and start it up to find it shaking more than usual, and very loud inside the car when it is idling, worse in gear with the brake on. I drive the car and it sounds totally normal. has plenty of power, no bad noises. I think it is the motor mounts, I could not get the engine to lift up "bliping" the trottle, but it really isn't that responsive that way, and I didn't want to instruct her to put it in gear and give it gas while holding the brake, since my body was in the engine compartment. I though I had heard that these w123 cars sounded like all h*** breaking loose if the mount goes, and that is what it sounds like. Thoughts? Paul. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Jan 2006 18:20:35 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: Re: [db] armageddon under the hood! sounds like a reasonable diagnosis... john On Sat, 28 Jan 2006, Paul Masterson wrote: > -->Hello all, > -->I hope someone can back up my diagnosis, here are the sympoms: > --> > --> My better half has an '84 300D turbo, and she said it sounded like it was > -->dying on her when she stepped on the brakes, I get in and start it up to > -->find it shaking more than usual, and very loud inside the car when it is > -->idling, worse in gear with the brake on. Although their fuel economy seems low to me... oh, look at this, an '80 300TD, a real TD, $4k in Chico: http://seattle.craigslist.org/car/128781334.html a nice 1979 Mercedes-Benz 240D 4sp Manual - $3995: http://seattle.craigslist.org/car/127492197.html a '85 E300D for $9k http://seattle.craigslist.org/car/128766798.html this is different... I should meet this guy... well, maybe that's not such a good idea: http://seattle.craigslist.org/car/128723963.html ok, here's something in my price range: http://seattle.craigslist.org/car/128396267.html 77 240D Mercedes Benz - $500 It was run very great now it wont start it needs fuel injection it may clean or rebuilt. The engine is still glow by sparkplug. Engine is not crack becasue not even mix oil with water Great for bio-diesel. I am moving out here and Benz need go end by this month. it is 384,600 mileage automatic. Interesting... too bad it has so many miles on it... would be a nice setup for my CJ-2A. :) Ok, for the record, I'm NOT looking... just seeing what's out there on craigslist. Quite happy with Shadowfax and I certainly have no plans on bringing any other Mercedes home... I could see brining a Jeep home with a Mercedes under the hood... but that hasn't surfaced yet. :) No temptations this evening... ;) Seems that I priced the '99 WJ Laredo about right compared to other posts, but no calls... need to take more pictures, but it's been raining all day. Tanked up the WJ this afternoon when running to Home Depot (Shadowfax was ineligible for the run despite the clean trunk. ;) Noted that Shadowfax has more miles on the trip odometer and over 1/2 tank remains... so basically driving the '91 300D costs half as much as the WJ. I guess my wife was right in suggesting I buy Shadowfax back... the whole thing was a bit weird... I had mentally decided to swear off Mercedes and cars in general... but I was slapped back to reality at the gas pumps. :) Long live Shadowfax and our Diesel Benzes. Oh, the politicians seem to be chanting biodiesel... it's good for our economy, our environment and our farmers... It does look like we'll be a three car household... no plans to get rid of SuperDawg, or at this point shadowfax, and my wife won't drive either of them. ;) I doubt superdawg will get better than 20mpg in town so it won't make sense to make him a daily driver either... at this point with the WJ capable of doing the chores with the trailer I'd say superdawg is more at risk than shadowfax.... one other observation, getting into the benz I've yet to hit my head... every now and then getting in the WJ I'll whack my head... must be the sloped windshield because I'm not that tall. ;) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #2084 **********************************
