He's asking $49K . Apparently, you can register a used Diesel in NY (but not a new one), if that makes any sense. I think I'm going to hold out for next year's developments. Then switched insurance back onto shadowfax... looks like no snow until this weekend, 30mpg here I come. :) next out the door is the '87 xj... any takers? ;) it's a little rough on the outside, but runs well... (rock tested, no extra charge... ;) the white '48 cj-2a is getting some attention, but no takers yet... I think I'm going to take the windshield to a glass shop and have them drop it in the frame after ready the replies. ;) now, if superdawg would ever come back home... could finally sort out the fleet and get it down to two vehicles. :) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Feb 2006 05:12:58 +0000 From: Bruce Caruthers Subject: Re: [db] the white wj departs, shadowfax rides again... I haven't had the W124 long enough to know what is "normal" in the way of sounds and feels, yet (unlike the W115, which I have been driving for 20 years). Anyway, there seems to be more "knocking" than sounds "right" with the engine at idle (fine once it is revving up a bit) and there is a rattle or scraping sound quite often, which I *think* may be the turbo scraping on its containing walls? The "death rattle" of which I speak has only occurred once, a couple of days ago, where it sounded like tearing metal, or a loose screw flying around inside the turbo (or something that spins). Any thoughts? I'm going to try to run it by Jim Startup tomorrow (Thursday), but would like to know if it sounds serious. Otherwise, I guess we will be taking the W115 (or, ugh, the cramped Toyota) up to Vancouver this weekend. (Neither the W115 nor the W124 have a CD player (and both tape decks are broken), so my wife will have to live without music on the drive, either way (unless we take the Toyota). And, while I've got your attention... Hey John, still got Amsoil stuff for a W124? It is about due for an oil change (although still looked fine, visually) since it still has the dino oil put in just before we drove from Chicago with it. Might as well try the Amsoil thingamahoosits, see if they make any difference in performance or mileage. As a line is about US$ 60.- ea I replaced only the broken one. Now it happened again to another one. Now I bought the other four and hopefully this will not be a problem area anymore. Also replacing all the plastic clips as they break easily after 20 years. The parts persons at the MB place advised that in general these lines - in comparison to older MB models - do not break but it is very important to have all the plastic clips in place and install new ones when older as they wear a bit. At the same time a fuel injector started to make a very strong hammering noise. Took all injectors to a Bosch place and had them cleaned and adjusted. Regular release pressure is 115 bar - 4 were in the nineties and one at 140. The nozzles showed some wear but can still be used for quite a few miles. Have found Bosch nozzles for US$ 36.59 ea. and a rebuilt injector for US$ 67.37 ea. Understand there are nozzles from other suppliers but the quality is questionable.
