The MB parts person remarked very briefly that with the older fuel lines it is a common problem. This means you better be prepared. Diameter of the fuel line about 4 mm. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Feb 2006 01:07:33 +0000 From: dieseljohn-at-comcast.net Subject: [db] car parts I cleaned out my carport... the parts are being auctioned off on ebay now... :) Some of the parts may be mislabeled... rick isn't a gear head and I didn't have time to explain what all the parts are... john - -------------------------------- Thanks John for your help in listing the auto parts. Was I lucky today! 6 months ago, I bought a new ignition lock as the one on the '91 300D was a little loose, but had trouble installing it (using a couple of small diameter allen wrenches) so I didn't do it. Last night, I went to pick up my daughter and I couldn't get my ignition to go to the end stop for removing the key! I went in to get her and after a few minutes of wiggling the key, I got it to turn back, so I could start the engine (remember the starting position lock-out to prevent engaging the starter while the engine is runnig?). I had a few stops to make on the way home and was just lucky that I was able to turn the car off and then back on 2 more times. I got home, turned it off and promised to fix it in the morning. This morning, I found a piece of wire to bend into the "dis-engaging wire" tool described in the manual. I tried for about 15-20 minutes, got frustrated and quit. 1/2 hour later after reviewing the manual's procedure one more time I went out, put the tool into the slots, pushed extra hard this time and viola! the lock came out easily. ...and proceded to disintegrate in my hand. The thing was so worn and broken inside I am surprised (and lucky) it worked for the last few times. As John and others have stated in previous e-mails, I highly recommend replacing the ignition switch if it seems the least bit loose. If you don't, the dealer said it could cast big bucks to repair (I believe they said it was > $1K labor). I paid about $100 for the switch and an extra key. You will need your registration for the car to buy it, so you can prove you are the owner (remember the movie "Gone in 60 Seconds"? one of the thiefs had a connection at the MB dealership that would get him the keys to all the Benzs he wanted....)
