Her front walk was crowded with cars. She admitted as to how she might be selling her Benz. I asked her how much - she said "Oh, about $2K". The car in question is an '82 300SD. The interior is pretty worn. The paint has seen better days. But it's pretty good mechanically as far as I know. A few years ago, she treated it to a brand new factory engine and transmission. I doubt if there's more than 5K miles on those parts. The seat motors on the passenger side are dead - have been dead ever since my mother in law ( five foot two and three hundred pounds ) sat in it a few years ago. Now, I need another car like a loch in kop, except that I'm buying a small apartment complex in Stockton. That's why I was visiting my broker. The buildings in Stockton will require an airport car in Stockton. This looks like a mighty fine airport car to me.... - Jerry Kaidor ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Feb 2006 21:50:13 -0600 From: "Alec Cordova" Subject: RE: [db] My Broker's Car If the climate control has any life left in it, that definitely sounds like a fine airport car. Twenty five years ago, we bought our first house, and our broker wow'ed us with her new Mercedes. Sixteen years later, we were looking to move, called the broker, and she arrived in the same Mercedes! This implied durability and longevity far in excess of the automotive products I was used to working on. My 300D has been moved from Madera to Fresno, we managed to rent a shelter( sort of a giant airplane-sized carport ) there. So the car is protected from sun & rain. I made it out to Fresno twice last month, and each time it started instantly. > Then have someone put a chevy v8 in it, paint it > and sell it for a nice profit... :) *** I've come to the general conclusion that the only way to profit from buying and selling cars is to be a thief or a con man. I'm sure there are exceptions but - hey - parts cost $$$, labor costs $$$, the value just is not there. - Jerry ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Feb 2006 16:26:49 +0000 From: "Stephen Rigley" Subject: [db] (No Diesel content) 190E Q's Herself pulled into a shopping centre carpark and was approached by someone who said he had a 190E "out the back" if she wanted some parts off it... then said if we wanted we could "take it away" as he was too lazy to sell it... Its an eggshell grey '92 1.8 petrol 190e manual with 142k miles on it.. I went over for a look at lunchtime, the problem is... we already have 4 cars outside the house... ;-) So, on the petrol model, apart from the usual gearbox/brakes/suspension checks, is there any faults I should be looking for in particular engine wise on these models? Steve ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Feb 2006 10:07:40 -0800 (PST) From: "Jerry Kaidor" Subject: RE: [db] My Broker's Car I just talked to my broker. She says the car may have as much as 100K since the overhauled ( not new ) engine and transmission were installed. The climate control works. The car goes where you point it. She has had the car under the care of a shop that she trusts in Oakland. Three or four times a year, she calls AAA, (free tow up to 100miles) and they plop the car on a flatbed and take it across the bridge. I called Stockton airport, and they have unlimited free parking - just register the car at their office so the police know it's not abandoned. So it's a bit of a disapointment that the running gear isn't brand new, but - hey - 100K miles is barely broken in for one of these puppies. - Jerry > *** This is actually the car that inspired me to look into > diesel benz's.
