I must get a good camera they were just taken with my mobile phone... Yup, there is a bit of open country, most of it state owned/bog. Some really spectacular areas, some I haven't even been to yet! The used to use salt and sand back in the day, then went to mostly sand for awhile before they figured out that it was the major source of the brown cloud that would hang around Denver during the winter. So now that they control burn days and very moderat use of sand, plus mag chloride, plus a salt water solution, things are livable. The worse thing about mag chloride is the corrosion caused to the magnesium alloy wheels prominate on most cars/trucks these days. If applied properly, within a few minutes prior to an upcoming snow storm, it's very effective in keeping ice from forming and CDOT says that it's greatly reduced the number of traffic accidents compared to prior usage years. If applied too soon, and the snow never comes, it can create a bit of surface slickness that some folks claim causes accidents too, but CDOT seems to have educated their troops pretty well over the years and kept up with the application techniques that work best. Another downside from mag chloride use is the run-off as it coats the tree roots and such and seems to kill trees too close to the roadside. With your infrequent snowfall, I'd think that the benefits would be good and the cons would be minimal there in WA. We've written a few stories in our paper on this back in 2004 or 2005 that you could probably find in our archives. Anti-icing chemicals can cause corrosion so wash your vehicle as necessary. All the chemicals are water-soluble, so rinse your vehicle thoroughly before applying soap. If towing aluminum boats or trailers, be sure to wash them, too. Hard to believe I used to do this stuff for a living.... Went out to replace the shocks in my new 300SD. The fronts are straightforward enough - although the instrux in the Bilstein box are about as cryptic as they come. But the rear.... How the hell do you get to the top of the rear? My first guess is that you remove the rear seat. The bottom came out easy enough, but I have no clue as to how to remove the seat back. Maybe you remove the first aid kit boxes? Guess I'll have to get a shop manual. I see a multitude of different CDs and DVDs on Ebay. Prices all over the map. Anybody use any of these CDs? - Jerry Kaidor ( jerry-at-tr2.com ) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Mar 2006 19:21:10 -0500 From: Paul Brown Subject: Re: [db] 300SD manual On the 123 chassis cars, you take out the rear seat back. There are two plastic plugs that then come out to reveal the tops of the shocks. Jerry Kaidor wrote: > Hi guys, > > Damn I'm out of shape. Took the front shocks out - they were Konis. You know, the adjustable kind. If I'd known, I would have tried adjusting them. Other goodies include an obviously brand new radiator, and a brand new Die-Hard battery. - Jerry Kaidor ( jerry-at-tr2.com ) > Hi guys, > > Damn I'm out of shape.
