As gas and DinoD prices rise, I thought I'd visit some of the prices I've seen of late: $3.03 for regular unleaded (I've heard as hihg as $3.13 but not seen it) $3.13 for premium unleaded $2.90 for Diesel And at Laurelhurst Oil where I get my Biod..... $2.99 is the posted price. With a Commercial Fueling Network Card, I think I'm paying $2.96... that's 10 cents less than last time I went (about 2 weeks) and I am now paying less than my gas-driving friends! WAH-WHO!!!!! (I did hear that Dr. Dan in Ballard is raping his customers and charging $3.23 for biod... I've heard not good things about his attitude and customer service practices, and now, hearing this, you can bet I'll not be going there any time soon.) c ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Apr 2006 16:51:36 -0700 From: Greg Fiorentino Subject: Re: [db] biodiesel in credit card form Charles Redell wrote: This is a neat story on a prototype biodiesel-creation method at the U of Oregon. Apparently Burgerville (a local eatery chain known for good fast food and using local products) was doing recycling their cooking oil for biodiesel. Then another local article about the microreactor design for biodiesel by OSU. They can package multiple credit-card sized microreactors together to build a production machine that will be about the size of a desktop printer. This unit will be capable, they say of producing 100,000 gal./year and will cost between $1000 and $5000. The icing on the cake is that they are looking for a catalytic material to replace the caustic currently used in the biodiesel production. The advantage of the microreactor is that the tubes where the veg oil and alcohol are mixed are so narrow (100 microns) that the reaction takes place very quickly, allowing a continuous process instead of batch. I foresee a severe shortage of used french-fry oil in the not-too-distant future. The icing on the Unless my math is wrong, 100k gallons per year comes out to 11 gallons per hour. IMHO, it shows that he's not necessarily interested in spreading the gospel of Biod and clean fuels as much as he interested in making a buck.... And before anyone accuses me of being against making a buck, not at all. I'm all for it (in most cases) but the issue of global climate change is near and dear to my heart and there's got to be a middle ground where he could make some money but also do right by his customer base and increase the numbers of people using biod by charging a more realistic price. c ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Apr 2006 18:32:19 -0400 From: "wmpless" Subject: [db] Oilpan 190D Seems, that the oilpan has a crack in the vertical area close to the drain plug.
