I know on my '91 300d they're pretty close, and have been on most of my Jeeps. I don't have the link, but I have posted it on the list before so you could search wagoneers.com for the link, or google it afresh. john On Fri, 26 May 2006, Jim Hoffman wrote: >-->Hi Folks, >--> >--> What's a good website for finding realistic MPG ratings for >-->vehicles?? >--> >-->Jim >--> ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 May 2006 08:55:45 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Re: [db] Fuel mileage listings my '83 300SD routinely got 26mpg in town, 28 to 29 on the freeway... even my '81 300D (non-turbo) got 23 to 25 mpg in town and 27 to 18 on the freeway, and after I sold it, the guy replaced the timing chain, adjusted the valves and drove it mildly, got around 32mpg on the freeway with it... I'd think that 21mpg for your '82 300SD is not good... check your timing chain/timing/valves, switch to synthetic oil (recommend amsoil), clean/replace air filter, check your brakes to make sure they're not dragging, inflate your tires and hose off all the mud. ;) john On Fri, 26 May 2006, Brian Knowles wrote: > -->john wrote: > -->> are we to assume that you're not talking about the EPA website? > -->> > -->> it would be hard to gather that info from articles and such, > -->> way too many variables... the EPA guide is the only consistent > -->> source across all models, whether their model is valid or not > -->> is irrelevant if all the data is gathered or estimated consistently. > -->> > -->> I know on my '91 300d they're pretty close, and have been on > -->> most of my Jeeps. > -->> > -->> I don't have the link, but I have posted it on the list before > -->> so you could search wagoneers.com for the link, or google it > -->> afresh. > -->> > -->> john > -->> > -->Heres some figures I've personally done and will vouch for: > --> > -->'82 300SD, 50 mile daily commute, 21.5 mpg. > -->'89 Dodge/Cummins 12-valve pickup, daily fooling around, 19 mpg, freeway 21 > -->mpg > -->'04 Dodge/Cummins 24-valve pickup, two dirt bikes, two people and gear, and > -->a travel trailer, 1500 mile trip, 17.5 mpg. > --> > -->I've seen claims of 30+ mpg from the SD, and constantly wonder what I'm > -->doing wrong.. > --> > -->Now, mostly I ride my 650 Honda popper for everything but groceries, has no > -->odometer, but it costs me about $5 bucks a week to run it.. > --> > -->bk > --> > --> ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 May 2006 17:48:44 -0400 From: Edward Pomeroy Subject: Re: [db] Fuel mileage listings Well: I agree with John about lack of consistency outside of the EPA, but we can build our own database from the folks on this list :-) 93 Mercedes 300D with 2.5 Turbo - solid 28 city, 30 with mixed city highway and.... 36MPG all highway (rarely varies more than +/- 0.5 from these numbers. Amazing! Wife 2002 Saturn L - 18 City and 24 Highway - not very good at all. Daughter 1999 Mercury Sable - same as the Saturn! 1997 Pontiac Transport van (metal skin with some pastic) 21 mixed city/highway. 26 all highway - go figure. I have found to be very tire-dependant. It could be diameter/odo mismatch... haven't investigated really. But, on the original tire/wheels it consistently registered 49-51 MPG in mixed highway/city driving. All pure highway trips (only done a couple in this car) were consistently 51-52 MPG. I swapped tires/wheels with my wife's car, a 1999 VW new beetle, and my mileage dropped to 41-43 MPG. As I said, that could be an odometer issue. Long convoluted story behind the swap, not worth going into here. The wife's 1999 new beetle (2.0 liter normally aspirated gasoline engine) regularly did 26-31 MPG mixed. I didn't ask her how it did after the tire/wheel swap. The wheels are being swapped back tomorrow in preparation for an emergency trip down to Oregon to visit an ill relative on Sunday. We have a 1999 Dodge Ram (gasoline) 1500 pickup that sees very little use (horse/lumber/parts hauler), but with a trailer it gets *truly* awful mileage. Without is gets merely awful mileage. 8-10 MPG with trailer and tailwinds, 14-16 MPG without trailer. yes, should have bought a Diesel. Blame the wife, she bought it. =\ 1965 Jaguar E-type, again not a daily driver by any stretch, and equipped with three big SU carbs that make a wonderful "giant sucking sound" ... If I drive it carefully and with moderation on highway trips I can squeeze 18 MPG out of it. But why? =) If driven how it was meant to be driven, MPG becomes irrelevant! I just pour money into the tank and get smiles out. - -- - --chuck goolsbee 02 Jetta TDi (but also looking for a 300SD or SDL) arlington, wa, usa ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 May 2006 16:19:10 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: [db] OM617.192 data On Fri, 26 May 2006, Andy Lavery wrote: FYI - found some numbers buried here and there...
