I definitely know it applies to the OM61x family in W123 240D and 300D. By Jeff Switzer Herald Writer EVERETT - Snohomish County has promised a paycheck and a chunk of county land to a Seattle firm if it sells biodiesel to the public this summer. The Democratic majority of the County Council prevailed Wednesday in a 3-2 vote to approve a $7,600 contract with SeaPort Petroleum. The agreement allows a 5,000-gallon biodiesel tanker truck to park at the county's Paine Field airport transfer station for up to 15 Saturdays. The company will sell a nearly pure mix of 99 percent biodiesel starting as soon as July 22. The company will keep the profit. Even as crude oil prices reached more than $75 a barrel on Wednesday, the council debated whether it was right or legal to pay a company to sell biodiesel fuel on public land. The public benefits are many, Councilman Dave Somers said. Spurring drivers to become consumers of biodiesel supports county policies for farmers, he said. "Our public policies are to preserve farmlands and agriculture, and we are actively trying to look at the potential of developing biodiesel locally," he said. The county's public works fleet uses biodiesel. Officials argue that a stronger market could drive down costs and help taxpayers. Of the $7,600 contract with SeaPort, $4,000 would be spent on advertising. The taxpayer subsidy hurts private enterprise, said Steve Miller, owner of American Distributing Co. of Marysville, which is days away from selling biodiesel. "I have to match that amount of advertising or surpass it, or we'll get hammered," Miller said. "It's taking away the entrepreneurship from those already in business. I think that it's an absolute rip-off." Miller said he spent thousands of dollars on state-certified equipment, banners and advertising to be the county's first official supplier of 99 percent biodiesel. In Snohomish County, only two companies sell biodiesel: Donna's Travel Plaza in Marysville and the Snohomish Co-op's Cenex station. Each sells a 20 percent biodiesel blend, known as B-20. A Bothell man runs Biodog Biodiesel from his home, where he sells a 99 percent biodiesel blend. Republican Councilmen Gary Nelson and John Koster objected to paying a for-profit company to use public land. "I really don't feel the county or the citizens get any benefit from this endeavor," Nelson said. Koster said the county contract is treading where companies belong. "At best this is premature and still something the private sector should be doing," he said. State law allows it, advisers told the council. Selling biodiesel serves a fundamental purpose of government, deputy prosecutor George Marsh told the council. A stronger biodiesel market can reduce engine emissions, reduce waste, improve economic development and support farmers, all public goals, he said. Nelson said SeaPort is a Seattle firm selling biodiesel produced in Iowa, and those factors don't benefit the local economy. Local farmers could benefit from a 48-acre test crop of seeds planted near Monroe that could be crushed for biodiesel. ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2006 09:59:19 -0700 (PDT) From: "Jerry Kaidor" Subject: Re: [db] mythbusters, motor mounts and other stuff > On Thu, 13 Jul 2006 acordova-at-texas.net wrote: >>-->Motor mount replacement ain't cheap, but it is usually a VERY >> noticeable >>-->improvement, so at least there's some reward in it. > > improvement in what? cheap they are not... *** Really? I don't remember motor mounts for anything being expensive. And I've changed out lots of them over the years in different cars. There were a couple spots where the paint was abraded off, and the metal starting to rust. So I sanded, hit it with Rust-Mort, primed, spot-puttied, and painted with the closest color I could find in the rattle-cans down at the McParts. Came out tolerably good, given the small amount of time I had to devote to it. - Jerry Kaidor ( jerry-at-tr2.com ) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2006 10:41:57 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Re: [db] mythbusters, motor mounts and other stuff my cost is $125/each... will let you know what list was... john On Thu, 13 Jul 2006, Jerry Kaidor wrote: >-->> On Thu, 13 Jul 2006 acordova-at-texas.net wrote: >--> >-->>>-->Motor mount replacement ain't cheap, but it is usually a VERY >-->>> noticeable >-->>>-->improvement, so at least there's some reward in it. >-->> >-->> improvement in what? cheap they are not... >--> >--> >-->*** Really? The replacement ones last much longer than the original ones.
