Haven't had much luck uploading pictures with my verizon vz620 card... blue screened a couple of times... (hey, anyone have a SuSE Linux driver for it? Anyway, we're almost to Helena, MT. The WJ is doing fine, but is leaking out the rear pinion seal and making a mess... will top it off at one of those mini-lube places... maybe in South Dakota I'll have it fixed if I can find a wrench there I can trust. Went through Glacier today... at the Divide had a rain/hailstorm, lightning and wind... pretty cool. Got a picture of lightning stricking behind the WJ on the east side of Glacier. Will try to upload that one... (can't believe I forgot to bring a CAT5 cable... at a holiday inn express... they're out... almost ran to wally world for one, will wait until morning and my try to upload pictures... Now for the Popcorn report. I think we've got it all sorted out now... Here's the final fleet configuration: '99 WJ 4.7L (no name) Grand Cherokee Laredo - stays (glad we took it) '91 SJ 6.2L Diesel (Omega) Grand Wagoneer - stays (going to heat the 2nd tank) '48 CJ 2A (Alpha) - stays hidden in the carport, comes out every now and then.) '83 SJ 4.0L/AW4 (Superdawg) J10 Stepside, here's where it gets interesting... my wife has totally vetoed the idea of white, which I'm with her on, but she also vetoed the same color as her WJ... she has requested a Black Cherry or, the mutually agreed upon color of ROOT BEER BROWN METALLIC... with a dump bed (light weight version... ;) Which means that I will be selling my '75 J10 Hydraulic dump trailer that comes complete with the onboard deepcycle gel cel, toolbox, aux tank in bed, hydraulic pump, dual cylinders, original Jeep canopy and disc brakes on an empty pumpkin Model 20 controlled by a surge brake controller... fully licensed and titled. No extra charge for any hornets that may have taken up residence. I'll also be selling the '91 300D with the 2.5L Turbo Diesel called Shadowfax. Just had new brakes installed, a/c gone through, new motor mounts and is doing just fine... The '91 Grand Wagoneer will be my daily driver. I am not selling the 300D until the GW is home... :) I'm thinking this could happen THIS September... I'm not sure what to ask for the 300D, it sold pretty quick the last time... ;) Maybe I should do it by bids, open or sealed... In the meantime I need to fix the pinion seal and driver's side door stop on the WJ, swap the trans and install the top on the CJ, and start looking for the tank heater stuff for Omega... may break down and buy the Greasel kit... Well, time for this driver to call it a night... hurt my back running up a trail at Glacier... (dropped my key and someone noticed my hat and told me they'd set it on a rock up at the top... I should know better than to run, but it's hard... I still think I can do two miles in 11:30 like I did almost 30 years ago... My mind is willing, and parts of my body are... but that fifth lumbar gave up back in 1982... :( But it's ok, the pain is making for quite a bit of humor... I guess I look real funny walking around with a glad bag filled with ice hanging out the top of my shorts... :) managed to upload the picture: http://wagoneers.com/fotos/SouthDakota_2006/WJ-lightning.jpg john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Jul 2006 01:45:00 -0500 From: Jon Filina Subject: Re: [db] popcorn/road report... It was introduced in 1993 to reduce tailpipe emissions. Now, the Environmental Protection Agency wants diesel engines to pollute even less; starting with the 2007 models. To meet those tougher emission standards, automakers have redesigned their diesel engines to use a new fuel - Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel. While Low Sulfur Diesel can have up to 500 ppm of sulfur, Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel can have no more than 15 ppm. In four years from now, December 2010, all diesel fuel sold in the U.S. will be ultra-low sulfur. "It will reduce particulate emissions and nitrogen oxide emissions by approximately a factor of 10," says the EPA's Wayne Elson. Few stations are selling the new diesel yet. That should change in mid-October, when the 2007 model cars hit the market. Stations selling the old Low Sulfur Diesel are required to put a bright green sticker on the pump. It's there to let you know this diesel cannot be used in 2007 model year vehicles or later and that it's a violation of federal law to do so. The EPA says the new diesel will not affect engine performance but it might cause a slight decrease in mileage. Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel is backwards compatible - it can be used in older vehicles. Any diesel that uses it will pollute less. It's a good bet this new fuel will cost a few cents a gallon more, at least at first. The Craftsman was $99 for a set of SAE, and the "gearwrench" was on sale for $59.00. The feel was about the same, except the "gearwrench" wrenches have a slight ridge on the upper end of the fastener gripper. This ridge makes it so when you slip the wrench onto the nut, it doesn't slip past the nut. It also makes it so you can't flip the wrench around backwards, but these have a reversing lever, so that's OK. - Jerry Kaidor ( jerry-at-tr2.com ) p.s. It's now on par with Super. I am selling my beloved 84 300d Turbo Diesel. It's silver and wonderful. It's got 280,000 miles on the engine (the number is approximate as I don't have it written down in front of me but the odometer is accurate and what it says when you look at it is correct). The engine is Good, strong and solid. It does leak a bit of oil, but nothing serious. I don't need to add oil in between the oil changes every 3,000 miles so we're talking much less than a quart over a few months. The vaccum system does have a leak at the brake booster which affects shut down. However, when the brake booster is isolated out of the system, shut down and power locks etc are fine. So it needs a new brake booster to solve the problem. I have a new, uninstalled one which comes with the car. The project is an easy one. Glow plugs are new as of this winter, so no issues with starting. Battery is new as of late last year. New rear brakes and a new master cylinder were done this winter also. At the time, front brakes were fine and not in need of changing any time soon. I don't drive it often, so they should still be fine. I've been running biodiesel in it for over a year. Tires are new as of late last year. No leaks in trunk. Cosmetics: Front right quarter panel has a dent in it. Leather seats are cracked and worn. Has the original radio which works well other than the fact that the display is shot. Power locks, windows and sun roof all work. No interior leaks, no real concerns about this car other than the vaccum system problem. But since the issue has been diagnosed already, it can be fixed very easily. This is a great car and I love it. But I am leaving the country for a while and don't need to deal with storing it. email me to come and look at it. $2500 - -- TripleTake.org and thequestionproject.com, projects powered by biolumenessence. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Jul 2006 12:59:36 -0500 From: Jon Filina Subject: Re: [db] popcorn/road report...
