That's the ubiquitous Chevy pickup. They say the Ford F Series has been the top seller in the US for a zillion years, but the Chevy and it's GM twin have always been close. That particular one does appear to have the long bed configuration, which looks good. I think three bed lengths were available. They were fairly basic. US emissions, economy, and safety regulations for trucks always lagged behind cars, so they got away with using simpler designs, staying with carbs, etc. Third party parts are ridiculously easy to find, including performance parts for the Chevy smallblock. I think you could get trannies rebuilt for a few hundred bucks. And they all included enough headroom for our ten-gallon hats. This was the first time I did a whole oil change from the top. Tried once before with the 300D but on 115s, one still had to lie underneath and have hot diesel oil run down your arm while changing the filter--not much advantage to doing the easy part via dipstick tube. On a 124 with spin-on oil filter, doing everything from the top makes oil changing a breeze. I didn't wear white tie exactly; it was ~100F in Austin today. Wore Levi's shorts & Tshirt--but they were clean both before and after the oil change. Also didn't use a Topsider, instead, an inexpensive hand pump--and pumped oil directly into old water bottles to take to recycler. Whether I got the last milligram of grunge from crankcase, I don't know. The slurping sounds indicated I probably had a very clean spot on the floor of crankcase near the dipstick tube; it's unlikely that more than a thin film remained elsewhere. I replaced old oil with Amsoil (the cheap(?!) X stuff. This car's a gasser, doesn't need the 15-40 I gave the D. Almost look forward to next oil change but that won't be for a while now that it's running on Amsoil. To oil changes that don't include oil on the driveway, in your hair and up to your right elbow!
