Contacted the real owner. He relisted the CJ6 Diesel on ebay for $15,000. He had the original bidding start at $3,000. it got up to $6,600. Book value according to NADA was around $6450. I had bid $6k... thought it odd that he was offering me a 2nd chance when I was in 3rd place in the auction... What did some low life hope to gain? ...like I'd send someone money without verification? Well, that was a fun few hours thinking I was going to get a Perkins Diesel. :) So, I won't be bidding. :) With the fiberglass tub it isn't worth that much to me... I'd rather buy a new tub for my CJ-2A and a stock flathead... (If anyone has a Go Devil 4 for a '48 let me know... :) Love the sounds of those old low compression engines... So it looks like I won't have to go to Salt Lake City over Labor Day either. Life just got better... :) Now, if I can just get the clutch working properly on my cj-2a I'll be in pretty good shape. :) I pulled the craigslist ad on the cj-2a... now, back to homework... john '48 CJ-2A (2.0L/t90/s18) '91 Grand Wagoneer (6.2L/700r4/???? np219?np208????) Plug in the car you have, the part you need, and see what prices are being asked across the country. If the specific part isn't listed, you can find a place which lists other parts for that car, and call them to see if they have the part you want. I've had both good luck and bad luck with getting these junkyard parts by mailorder. If you do order a part, GET THE NAME OF THE PERSON YOU SPEAK WITH! I had multiple orders that I waited for, and never came, and when I called they said they didn't have any record of the order, and I didn't know who I had spoken with. I don't want to scare you away from this site by saying there are some bad yards, I've had terrible luck with local yards, too, I just figure it's an industry-wide problem. One guy told me, "If they had a clue what they were doing, they wouldn't be working at a junkyard." Some places had great prices, about 10% of prices locally (you know, "if you've got a Mercede$, you can afford it!") Each is a 4-cylinder, 4.4-liter engine used commercially as a backhoe loader. http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/getedimage.aspx?ImageID=531692 Associated Press New Diesel Land Speed Record: 328 mph By BROCK VERGAKIS , 08.23.2006, 01:33 PM A British pilot broke a land-speed record for driving with a diesel engine, racing across the Bonneville Salt Flats at more than 325 mph. Andy Green broke the supercharged diesel streamliner world record by more than 90 mph by reaching an average land speed Tuesday of 328.767 mph. The old record was 235.756 mph, set by Virgil Snyder on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1973. "It's absolutely astonishing what we've achieved today," Green said by telephone from the salt flats, about 90 miles west of Salt Lake City. The attempt was observed by the FIA, the international governing body of racing. FIA rules require that two passes be made within an hour to arrive at an average speed. Green's first run was clocked at 324.265 mph and his return run at 333.364 mph, said David Petrali, FIA's representative at the 11-mile track. Green drove a vehicle powered by two diesel engines that have a combined total of 1,500 horsepower. Each is a 4-cylinder, 4.4-liter engine used commercially as a backhoe loader. Green said he used only about 1,200 horsepower because the vehicle couldn't handle any more than that. The tires on the car are designed to go no faster than 350 mph, but Green's crew said the car is capable of going 400 mph. The record will likely become official when a FIA board meets next month. Green said he might try to break his own record this week. Green also set a supersonic world land speed record in 1997 at 763.035 mph using a jet engine. Andy goes flat out for new speed record A FUTURISTIC car that was fine-tuned on the runways at RAF Wittering has dramatically smashed a land speed record that has stood for more than 30 years. Wing Commander Andy Green, who is based at Wittering, near Peterborough, broke the land speed record for diesel powered vehicles yesterday, averaging a speed of 328.767 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats in the US. Running in the afternoon in his JCB Dieselmax, Wing Co Green had to complete two measured miles at the speed to break the record. It smashed the previous record of almost 236 mph set in 1973. The record attempt came after a string of trial runs on the runways at the airbase. But while testing went well, the team endured a troubled time in the US. The combination of the altitude (4,000ft) and the higher air temperatures affected the performance of the second engine, which was generating insufficient turbo boost pressure and led to days of work for the small team of engineering experts. Stepping from the car Wing Co Green said, "This is exactly what we came to do today ^V this is British engineering at its absolute best. We now have the fastest diesel in the world. "This is a stunning engineering and team achievement. "The runways at RAF Wittering were perfect for our practice runs, and part of the reason this attempt seems to have gone so smoothly. We are all delighted." Project director Dr Tim Leverton said: "To have built the world's fastest diesel is a stunning achievement for the whole JCB Dieselmax team, and the car performed superbly. "Our goal was to set an official FIA record in excess of 300 mph, and we have achieved that, and more. The success is a tribute to everyone who has worked so tirelessly and with such passion to make JCB Dieselmax a world beater." The Dieselmax is a 9m-long streamliner powered by two finely-tuned 750 Bhp JCB 444-ltr diesel engines. Wing Co Green, who set the first-ever supersonic world land speed record at 763.035mph in 1997, is thrilled to have entered the record books again. No stranger to adventure, Wing Co Green has spent three spells in Afghanistan as an RAF detachment commander at a base in Kandahar, in the south of the country. The scene of the history-making attempt, Bonneville salt flats in Utah, is the world's largest deadflat space and is made up of a powdery salt. FACTFILE...
