I have a 74 240d. On one day it'll smoke like crazy and the very next day it will smoke much less. Why might that be? Also, are there any measures to reduce the overall smokiness (other than an oil change), i.e., fuel or oil additives or tuning? I feel guilty waiting in line to get out of my parking garage and smoking out the very nice attendant. Thanks. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Sep 2006 12:35:19 -0500 From: Sam Williams Subject: Re: [db] Smoke (off and on) Travis, I had similar, possibly more dramatic on/off smoking when there was a leak in the vacuum system that let oil into air intake. I'd get lots of smoke going down hill or breaking when oil sloshed forward and got pumped into intake. How do the door locks work? Does it shift right? Does it take a while before you have full power boost on the brakes? Just a possibility but worth checking. If that's it, you want to repair soon and clean all the oil out of vacuum system before other parts fail. It should smoke when you try to accelerate. LubraMoly (straight) to clean the injectors might help but regular flooring of the accelerator when you want to go faster should keep everything working optimally. To minimize toxicity of the smoke and keep injectors clean, use biodiesel. Sam Travis Thornton wrote: > Hi everyone. I have a 74 240d.
