The small plastic nipple (1/8") on the top passenger side that connects to the overflow tank is sheared off at the radiator. A new radiator will cost about $250 with me replacing it. I know the advice for the big neck on top is to replace the radiator if that one cracks. But with this diddly little thing... Questions: Is it workable to drill out the hole and tap pipe threads for a small brass nipple? The material appears to be only 1/8-3/16 thick. What is the composition of the plastic? Is it ABS or some other type of thermoplastic amenable to welding? What about using some filler and solvent based cement such as is used on plastic pipe? What would the consequences be of plugging the hole and plugging the hose to the top of the overflow tank? There can't be much flow through that 1/8" hose. There are other inlets/outlets connecting the tank to the radiator. Should I simply bite the bullet and spend the $250? TIA for your opinions. JB Weld. That stuff will fix damn near everyting on a car. Just helped a buddy repair a hardened steel pin for a 47 Dodge using the stuff, works just fine too! Use the traditional stuff, the one that dries slow. Edward Greg Fiorentino wrote: > Benz Friends: > > Just checked out the coolant leak from the '84 300D Turbo my son > drives. I'd like to fix/replace the vacuum pod with handles the defrost vents. I seem to remember having read the repair process for this but I cannot find the link. Does anyone have the link or info on the repair? I remember that it's a real tight spot. Any fixes you make on the plastic parts of the radiator may be short lived. The upper radiator neck snapped on my '84 300SD shortly after I got it some 4 years ago. My mechanic sent it to a shop to be rebuilt. As long as the core was good, the plastic parts were easily replaceable for around $100. Call the local radiator shops and ask about rebuilding the current radiator. A $100 rebuild will last a lot longer than a $20 "fix"...
