Oh yeah. The list was a bit fuller than usual for my morning check, but with a surprising lack of variety. ;-) Let's see if I get it started up again. Just in case this does replicate, I may as well put some content: Had our first cool morning of the season in central Texas today, mid to upper 50's. Funny how my Benzes have all seemed to love this. The cold start kicks in and she fires right up with a confident idle. The cooler, denser air seems to give her just a hint more power, and the tires lose a little pressure, making the ride wonderfully smooth. Some days I wish I didn't love Benzes so much, then I get a morning like today. Life could be a lot worse. And as for your "There's more to life than gas mileage" quote, my favorite is on the back of Warsteiner beers, "Life's too short to drink cheap beer." Means John, I noticed in a recent FSJ email that you were planning to sell the diesel Benz. I was interested the last time you had it up for sale and then didn't act. I've given up on my FSJ - I have no mechanical skills and no time to fiddle around. (I have more business than I can handle and I need to apply my skills to where they can best be utilized.) I just need a clean, dead solid reliable daily driver that will get me around town and on short trips, to meetings or court on time, every time, etc. The Benz sounds like it is just what I need. Do you agree that this particular car meets these requirements? If your 1991 Diesel Benz meets those requirements, I'd like to buy it. Please propose a price and a time line. I need a daily driver right away and a quick infusion of green stuff might help you convert one of your projects into your daily driver quicker. Thank you. I took some advice and drilled (but not tapped) for a 1/8 NPT X 1/4 hose barb brass adaptor. I wanted NPT threads so they would wedge as they screwed in. I chose a drill by miking the narrowest part of the thread on the NPT nipple and picking a drill of just that diameter. My research told me that the plastic parts of radiators are made of Nylon, a polyamide plastic, possibly fiberglass filled. Although JBWeld is not recommended for this type of plastic, I used it anyway. After screwing in the brass fitting (it felt good and strong by itself!) I washed the fitting and the plastic around it with cotton swabs dipped in 99% Isopropanol, then applied the JBWeld. Some of the epoxy dripped down, and six hours later it took a sharp chisel to get it off the uncleaned parts of the plastic! I took the opportunity to replace the T-stat while the coolant level was down. When filled and run there were no leaks! The repair looks like it will last a long time. This list is the greatest! The small plastic nipple (1/8") on the top passenger side that connects to the overflow tank is sheared off at the radiator. A new radiator will cost about $250 with me replacing it. I know the advice for the big neck on top is to replace the radiator if that one cracks. But with this diddly little thing... Questions: Is it workable to drill out the hole and tap pipe threads for a small brass nipple? The material appears to be only 1/8-3/16 thick. What is the composition of the plastic? Is it ABS or some other type of thermoplastic amenable to welding? What about using some filler and solvent based cement such as is used on plastic pipe? What would the consequences be of plugging the hole and plugging the hose to the top of the overflow tank? There can't be much flow through that 1/8" hose. There are other inlets/outlets connecting the tank to the radiator. Should I simply bite the bullet and spend the $250? TIA for your opinions. No virus found in this outgoing message.
