Bad Fram Bad I am convinced that my convenient rubber covered orange filter may not be worth the money. I still change the oil on the ZJ, but the GM products go the the dealer. At least the AC Delco filter got a positive rating. John, the only thing I have against amsoil is the cost. The K&N filters are spendy too. I think I will get a napa gold filter and try that. That is what I used on my chevette diesel becuase it was the only one I could find for it. Not available from fram. Bad Fram Bad These oil filter studies are utterly ridiculous. The only things that matter are how the filter flows, and how efficiently it filters. It's not a beauty contest. The Fram filters are always panned because the end caps are cardboard. What makes paper products ok for filter material but bad for end caps? K&N filters will slowly destroy your car, and will produce no HP improvement in a street vehicle. They do give you a new, messy maintenance task. I would like to know what the prices SHOULD be on the following vehicles that have caught my attention recently. There are also other considerations that I have thought of for them. Please inform me! 1974 240D w/ 250K miles, well-kept, owner expects $3000. (Also, is that a "million mile" or "million headaches" motor? And what body is that?) 1979 450SL w/ ~181K miles, well-kept, owner asking $5100. (Also, is that a "million mile" or "million headaches" motor? And what body is that? What kind of gas mileage?) 1985 280SEL w/ (guessing) 170K miles, perfectly kept (virtually mint condition,) owner asking (IIRC) $5500. ("Million mile" or "million headaches" motor? What body? Gas mileage?) IIRC 1992 300SD w/ 172K miles, well-kept, owner open to offers. ("Million mile" or "million headaches" motor? What body? Gas mileage?) 1999 400 Diesel, unknown mileage, presumed well-kept, expecting $16k. (I don't want this one; the seller of the 300SD is looking to buy this one. That's why I can't get the details. Just ballpark fairness^Whe has $$$ anyhow.....) Jason ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #2291 **********************************
