Haven't posted in awhile as the car has been rock solid reliable . As some of you in the region are aware, here in the Pacific NorthWet we've been "enjoying" an unusually stormy winter thus far. The car leaks. A Lot. I've got the mats drying in the garage as I write, and a couple of weekends ago I had a friend help me drain the trunk -- all three "wells" were 6" deep in water. The well in the trunk behind the left rear wheel well refuses to stay drained. I can use a screw driver or stiff stick and unplug it with little effort, but something in the trunk I can't see or get too is plugging it up again seemingly immediately. The questions: 1. When I open the trunk after a rain, water *pours* into the trunk from the trunk lid. What's not draining properly and is a fix something I can do myself? 2. Any ideas about keeping the drain hole mentioned above unplugged? 3. In the cabin the majority of the water seems to collect in the right rear, although I can see a split in the gasket (?) for the front passenger door. Is the fix to have all the door seals replaced and if so, how many hundreds is that? tia, Susan ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 31 Dec 2006 14:38:26 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: Re: [db] Transplant a Diesel into a 300E 124 and he didn't mention my name once in all of that... amazing. :) once again, proximity to john by location and some times cell phone contact is contagious. paul was infected when we worked together... he first caught the FSJ bug, then the Diesel Benz bug... now it appears he's caught the FrankenDiesel bug... at least Paul and Bruce and Jason aren't talking about putting a 6.2 or 6.5L Diesel into any Jeeps any time soon... UPDATE ON THE FD WATCH: if the price of that 300E is below a certain threshold you will be advised that a full FrankenDiesel warning will be in effect... :) just picked up some new Baked Lays Ruffles... seeing if that will help reduce some of the weight gain from the copius amounts of buttered popcorn. ;) looks like curtis caught a bug of a different kind and Omega isn't ready yet... same thing happened to another friend working on my '48 cj-2a, he got a flu bug and didn't finish... so it looks like I'm ending another year with only one functioning jeep... :) john On Sun, 31 Dec 2006, Jon Filina wrote: > -->Paul asked: > --> > -->>How much trouble would it be to transplant a 1991 2.5L Turbo Diesel engine > -->>into a 124 model 300E or transplant a 4MATIC transmission and transfer case > -->>(if that's what is used)? SPECS below... but flipping through my manuals I just noticed a need for a part from Deutschland regardless of which way we go... the oil pan... it appears that the right front drive axle goes right through the pan... oh wait, I know how to fix this... all we need is a lift kit... WHAT WAS I THINKING? sheesh. Simple solution... Does Rancho make a kit for this or do I have to make my own? I figure the Coil spring spacers and shock extensions should work... might have to go with longer springs and spacers top and bottom... duct tape should hold it all in place... :) if the oil pan for the 2.5L TD in Germany doesn't line up exactly right this would be a nightmare, even for me... this is why I do these acts of insanity on Full Size Jeeps, plenty of room to shuffle things around. Paul, I'm still interested in the 4matic even if I have to rebuild the engine and drive a... drive a... drive a... gas powered benz... Let me check with my friends in Europe before I commit such a disturbing act. :) Too bad we don't get all the really cool stuff here in the states... :( john ================================ NOTE: 4matic only '90-92 uses the same transmission as the 300TE.
