(it's Friday!) Question: When you think of "john", which vehicle comes to mind first: (or, which vehicle do YOU think john should be in... :) (ok, so there are no FrankenDiesels listed, image 1 and 2 with a 6.2 if it helps) the ongoing question... saga... somebody make up my mind already, eh? ;) - -------------------------- 1) the '91 Grand Wagoneer? (Omega) 3" body lift http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Omega/1_home_21Jan2007/P1060550.jpg 5.9/727/np228 - will this get a 6.2? :) 10 to 12 mpg (6.2 should get 18 to 20 mpg) - -------------------------- 2) the '83 J10 Stepside? (Superdawg) 2" body, 2" spring http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/superdawg-oct2000.jpg 4.2/t5/np208 - will this get a 6.2? :) 15 to 17 mpg (6.2 should get 18 to 20 mpg) - -------------------------- 3) the '99 Grand Cherokee? (the W-ife's J-eep WJ) stock http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Omega/1_home_21Jan2007/P1060550.jpg 4.7/45rfe/nv247 15 to 18 mpg - -------------------------- 4) the '48 CJ-2A? (Alpha) stock http://wagoneers.com/Willys/48-CJ-2A/ 2.0/t90/spicer18 ??? (like I'm planning on driving this thing that far...) - -------------------------- 5) the '91 300D Diesel? (Shadowfax) http://wagoneers.com/fotos/2005/Dec-4-snow/sun-dec4-benz.jpg 2.5 TD/AT (traction control) 28 to 39 mpg (seats and dual fuel... :) - -------------------------- 6) or maybe a nice XJ leather, power, lifted... :) (possibly with a Mercedes Diesel...) - -------------------------- 7) sell all but the WJ and buy a ???? (something Diesel with 4x4) - ------------------ Or should I just get Kevin's Diesel Pacer Wagon and have him put it on a 4x4 chassis and deliver it? :) - ------------------ I've been driving the '91 GW; nice, has a few rough spots, nothing serious... got an estimate from maaco, fix wrinkles/repaint $1,200, 4 days... If it fails the spouse test 10 Feb I may fix all the issues and sell it on ebay/autotrader... totally, absolutely rust free. I'm the 2nd owner... 163K on the clock... need to fix the a/c, cruise, fix a few trim items... The '91 GW may be the best for the 6.2 Diesel, it's practical... 4 doors, factory sunroof, good tow rig, can install WJ seats... matches Alpha... better stereo setup, etc. (keep talking john, you'll convince yourself yet... ;) The cramped quarters of the '83 J10 are working against it already... that and it's been in pieces for six years now doesn't help much. It was a nice truck and I may just put it back to stock and keep it that way. Hard to decide, plans, ideas and requirements change a lot in six years. I wish I'd thought of the 4.2L solution when Curtis was up here last week, could have sent him back with the good 4.2. That'll be the easiest way of getting the Dawg back in service... I liked the T-5/np208 setup in that thing too, and have a nice Weber carb for it too! February 10th is the final decision day... a team of judges will carefully determine Omega and Superdawg's fate. :) the ride home from SeaTac will make or break these beasts... :) And possibly determine if I'm even going to do a conversion at all. I may just let the '91 GW go away and make the '83 J10 a work vehicle and drive the '91 300D for economy. :) The stepside is just too cool to part with... the color we've selected, same as the '99 WJ will look great on the Dawg... The '99 WJ is a fine Jeep, last of the solid axle models in wagon form. No plans on parting with it, but it's not my choice as a daily driver... TWO PROBLEMS, no THREE: 1) dark interior 2) pedestrian sized blindspot A pillar and 3) economy is NOT it's best feature. (even a 4.0L didn't do that much better than the 4.7L, the 4.7L V8 is an awesome drivetrain, would work great in an SJ!) Getting an '07 WK with the factory Diesel would be ok if I won the lottery, or waited a couple of years for prices to come down, problem is they have that independent front suspension, and poor visibility... I think I'd rather have a Toureg with a V10 TDI. :) I should consider some of the GM Tahoe/Suburban options with Diesels... or maybe even a KJ Liberty, after all I could put WJ seats in it... :) The '48 CJ-2A is a nice little buggy... question is should I keep it or not? I'll probably drive it a few times in a year... got to think about this a bit... If I get rid of the GW and the J10, keep the WJ and the CJ and the 300D it'll be a nice happy little family... :) The wife doesn't work so I can use the WJ when I need 4 wheel drive... With the trailer we're set for utility... The '91 300D simply can NOT be beat for reliability and economy. If I can find some comfortable replacement seats and setup a second heated tank for WVO I may just scrap the idea of building "the perfect Jeep" and keep the fleet all stock. Keeping the '91 GW in stock trim would save a lot of time and effort. Same thing with SuperDawg, the '83 J10... I have another 4.2L to replace the bad one, that would keep it stock and maybe get it back on the road more quickly. If I go the 300D/WJ/CJ route I may ditch the trailer and keep the J10 as the utility vehicle... so, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or some combination listed or not? :) http://wagoneers.com/tmp/fleet-jan07.jpg thanx, john http://wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #2370 **********************************
