This is the same kind of misinformation that condemns all 4x4 owners, had impacted the acceptance of the less-polluting, more efficient Diesel engine, and a myriad of other things that most of us enjoy doing that doesn't hurt anything... like driving on forest service roads up into the mountains to enjoy the splendid views. We need to be very skeptical of such claims and research and even investigate the fundings and agenda of those that make them. We all have beliefs and underlying assumptions, those should be part of the disclosure. And just because someone believes one way or another should not totally discredit or taint their information, it should still be considered in light of all the facts. One of the reasons I drive a Diesel is that it is less evironmentally impacting than gas engines... and I run synthetic oils... I recycle everything I can (partly because I'm cheap, er, a "good steward", and don't want to pay to put stuff in landfills that can be reused. :) john On Sun, 4 Feb 2007, Jamie Phillips wrote: I am just getting tired of different groups (political, special interest and everything else) forming an opinion and then "bending" the truth and "data" in an attempt to convince more people of the validity. Global warming may be occurring but because so many different groups are trying to use this to support their own agenda (while providing their own interpretation) it makes it all the more difficult to filter out the crap. I mean I read the headlines "Global Warming Is Caused by Human Activity." Then I read the actual statement "in all likely hood." There is a significant disconnect here and it only makes me more skeptical and more likely to question any "truths" or "data" supporting either side. Anymore, when I hear that "data says" or "surveys say" I assume it is not correct unless the actual data/survey is also provided. Too often when I have investigated something, I come out with a completely different analysis. Sometimes when you trace back research chains (through multiple layers) they go back to data that was discredited years ago. Ever wonder what would happen to the "scientists" if they came out and said "you know, this is a natural occurring cycle"? Many would be out of a job. Has there ever been a research project that did not end up supporting the beliefs of the organization who pays the bills? The beliefs they had before the project was ever started. In other words, don't trust anyone! ;-) Especially not the media when it comes to science. Most journalists have no idea what is going on when it comes to science. They are usually to lazy to perform proper research. And, they just want to sell a story. Also don't entirely trust the media when it comes to politics (Especially the Associated Press). It is getting more and more difficult for me to read the newspaper and not run into at least one article where the title/headline disagrees with or isn't supported by the article.
