Average of all CPUs was 26.3%, best performance was 40%) details: - --------- XP SuSE XP / SuSE minutes | | total savings of Linux IBM R50p test 1 201 251 80% 20% IBM R50p test 2 226 272 83% 17% IBM R50p test 3 226 266 85% 15% IBM R50p test 4 212 254 83% 17% IBM R50p test 5 214 288 74% 26% overall savings of Linux over XP - 19% VISTA TEST Vista SuSE Vista / SuSE | total savings of Linux IBM R50p test 1 113 288 39% 61% IBM R50p test 2 128 272 47% 53% overall savings of Linux over Vista - 57% TRANSLATION: SuSE Linux saves an average of 19% over XP on an IBM R50p. SuSE Linux saves an average of 57% over VISTA on the same IBM R50p. "saves"... battery lasts 19% longer in SuSE Linux over XP. battery lasts 57% longer in SuSE Linux over Vista. Vista lasted about 2 hours, XP lasted around 3.5 hrs, SuSE lasted about 4.5 hours - - amazing. - - amazing that I saw 19% over XP (one of the lowest of all CPUs tested), but 57% over Vista! - - amazing that Microsoft is claiming "power savings" of Vista!!! It's worse than XP! Now, if I could only figure out how to get these kinds of fuel savings... :) john http://wagoneers.com/CS/LINUX/TCO/ ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Mar 2007 20:24:43 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: [db] idea for Veggie Oil heater... noticed that my R50p is putting out a LOT of heat while running Vista... if I put the laptop inside a bucket of Veggie oil it might easily heat it for use in the engine... :) (ok, so it's "only" 35.5 Watts... (16 Watts in SuSE Linux) I wonder how much heat is actually exhausted... hmmmm... gets me thinking about how to safely extract heat from the exhaust system as well... I wonder what kind of heat exchanger could be used without creating a fire hazard. tomorrow's adventures bring me to a technical conference in a nearby locale... I think the village is called redmond... :) I don't think there will be too many attendees interested in hearing about my latest research. For grins I may boot my laptop into Linux and use their wireless network to remote into my desktop at work... I wonder if they'll notice... :) john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Mar 2007 01:22:01 -0500 From: John Harrison Subject: Re: [db] idea for Veggie Oil heater... Guess the question is would it bolt up to the transmission? another question, the ML320 requires premium for the 3.2L V6, what happens if you run the regular 89 octane instead of the 92 octane? Damage, power loss or loss of economy? thanx, john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #2428 **********************************
