I agree that the 116 looks like the best buy of this batch. It appears to be in the best mechanical and cosmetic shape (velour seats, oooooooh), and I agree that it's a nicer looking body style than either the 123 or 126. Definitely worth seeing if anyone on the list in the Chambersburg, PA, area can take a look to see if it's as nice as it sounds. It has been there immobile for about 8 months. Front tires were without air, battery flat, however, after a few minutes jump, it showed signs of life. Lady that owns in says it was driven into the garage. The interior is a bit dirty, but for something that age, the MBTEX is not in that bad a shape, dashboard has a cover on it, which probably means there are cracks below. I did not look at it hard due to ppor lighting, but the headliner seemed to be OK. Engine has some engine oil stains on the IP side (looks like leaking valve cover gasket) and the hot air intake to the turbo has been disconnected, some of the vacuum lines apear missing in the engine bay. Rust seems minimal and mainly on the front of the car where stone chips got it. The car was from Arizona, but has been up in Michigan a couple of years. I could find no value for it on Edmunds or KBB, too old, but I would guess it can be had for under 1000, maybe half that. If anyone is seriously interested, I will pass on their info to the owner and let you work things out. Cream colored with that browny caramel colored MB Tex interior. Glass is sound, someone put in that cheap plastic tint film in AZ on all the side and rear windows. Injection Pump update - I was able to un-jam the lower pistons inside the IP pump, these are the two lines that were not producing pressure. I have them out and have taken a good look at em. They have a small port on one side and a larger hole port on the other. There is a slot cut into a skirt about 1/3 of the way up from the base on the outside. Otherwise the part appears to be a stepped cylinder with a hole down the middle. One of the ports seems to feed the inside of the part from what I can see. Does anyone know what the orientation of that slot is relative to the pump? Is it critical? Or is the interior port as relates to the plunger more critical? I assume there is SOMETHING critical with positioning as when I assembled it last time I got no pressure on these two lines. Have ordered the Bosch inline pump tech manual, but until that arrives, I am antsy as hell to get the thing back together and operating, what with $3.20/gal gasoline (diesel is still hanging at about 2.80 for some odd reason). BTW, I also picked up a 2001 Jetta TDI, it is going to become my daily commuter. I am told it will render better than 45 MPG on highway - so we shall see. The only drawback to it is that my kid (5'11" and growing) barely fts in the back seat, so it won't be the family run about sedan (that is what the Benz is, if I ever get the IP right!) On other tidbit - in the process of driving to see the 300SD, we also found a 1992 E class 300D Turbo Diesel with a blown engine. I am waiting for the owner to call back and tell me what he things it is worth. Any suggestions? Some surface rust, interior looks a bit rougher than my '93, but is has "working IP" written all over it if I can get it cheap enough? Real antsy in MI.
