One would think you two could take advantage of that a little more. Maybe it's just finding a driving position she likes that's the challenge. On the driver door next to the seat controls there are three buttons: 1 and 2, plus a green Set button. Put the seat, headrest, and steering wheel where I think I want them, press and release Green, press and release 1. I can then keep tinkering with seating position, updating the saved position as desired, or returning to the previously saved setup by pressing and holding 1 until all pieces stop moving. Either SWMBO can use position 2, or in my case where she rarely drives my car, I can use the 2 setting for extra passenger mode, where I pull the driver seat and steering wheel forward a little to provide more space for the rear seat. Mine does not have seat memory for the front passenger, only for the driver. I thought this became a standard feature for both front seats just a few model years after mine, but maybe not. I think that may be a leather seat option... mine has the heated seats with MB tex... I've seen that option... like I said, my WJ Limited had it... never used it though, most of the time my wife and I use the same seat adjustments, the only difference on the 124 is that her knees hit the dash... I might try to move the seat back and bring the seat back upright more... might work... she's only 5'10"... :) my daughter is taller and has driven it... but I do notice the seat is further back when she drives... :) I guess I need booster pedals... :) john >--> >-->On Fri, May 11, 2007 at 02:32:59PM -0500, Alec Cordova wrote: >-->> Mine's an 89 W124 300CE. >-->> On the driver door next to the seat controls there are three buttons: >-->> 1 and 2, plus a green Set button. The 87 300D has tan tex, the 87 300TD has navy blue tex. Oddly enough, the TD has a tilt function for the seat bottom, whereas the D does not. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 May 2007 15:41:50 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Re: [db] updated Omega 6.2L Diesel pictures no wonder mercedes bought Jeep... they followed the same manufacturing practices. :) (haven't found duct tape and friction tape in my benz though... ;) On Fri, 11 May 2007, Kevin wrote: >-->Both of my 124s are tex cars. When I removed the wood trim panel covering the climate control unit, there were two short strips of friction tape just to the right of the two light bulbs. Why? I dunno... But they'd been there quite some time. I removed the tape, which was slightly easier than replacing the bulbs with the "Rube Goldberg" tool recommended by the MB Service CD. I wonder if Shadowfax is the same? I have put about 300 miles on the TDI since Monday when I took ownership of it, when it occurred to me to ask the dealer that sold me the car ( used from a local Toyota dealership) what oil they put in the engine, as their label on the window failed to list the type. Much to my surprise the **ots at the shop said, well we put in the same regular 5-W30 we use in the Toyotas (normal gasser dino oil). After doing some fast reasearch, I got educated real quick on the 505.00 series of oils that VW/Audi recommend for the diesel engine and boy and I glad I caught this one before the next long road trip (this coming Thursday, going to Dayton Hamvention). It turns out there are only 4 or 5 recommended oils that meet the standard in the US, and yes, John, AMSOIL is one of them. Full synthetic with CG, or CH or CI (latest) rating for soot etc. I was able to find CI rated Mobil 1 full synthetic diesel oil at the McParts, 6 bucks a quart. Back to the TDI - to get to the filter you have to take that darned plastic cover off the top of the engine, and to reach the drain plug, have to remove 10 screws that hold up the under engine plastic pan, all with about 4 inches of space to work in. What a pain!. End result, Mityvac on the way, no way I am going to do this again unless I get a lift or dig a pit in the barn (neither of which is in the budget). Moral of the story. Don't trust any mechanic that is not familiar with your brand or smart enough to ask questions before doing something!!! Now back to fixing the IP on the 300D so I can get it out of the barn and mow the dandelions~ :-) Edward ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #2456 **********************************
