Hopefully I'll get to start it from cold plus see if its seeping overnight from anywhere. While that particular vintage of T-bird wasn't much to write home about, they weren't hideous drivers especially if v8 powered. I preferred the 302 ones to the 4.6 ones, since the early 4.6s had some problems with the guides on the passenger side (er, well, passenger side over here) head. The real appeal to those in junkyards though is the IRS setup. It's compact, has an 8.8 inch diff so will hold some reasonable power, and when not in a noseheavy t-bird, actually handles quite well. Yup, I discovered lots of similarities with Seattle while there (actually, buddy of mine is over there at the moment, working in Microsoft till Saturday, just sold his 2.5TDI Vauxhall Omega for a W124 AMG coupe.. nice) Anyways, can take this chat offline if you fancy a natter about the above. It's becoming a favorite for IRS swaps (like the other XJ rear suspension - the jaguar), since it's all unitized (like a W201 or W124) - it's all self contained. All you need to worry about is locating the subframe. So I'll have three friends up in Index... :) I'm glad it'll stay local... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160125737026 This CJ-2A is a nice looking vehicle, love the looks, love the sound of the engine... like slow speed driving with the top off, but once out of the driveway it's way more work than I am interested in doing to get somewhere... too nice of a rig to take off road and beat up. I resisted the urge to "improve" the CJ-2A... it was hard, so many things could have been done to make it a lot of "fun"... A Diesel conversion was high on that list... maybe some day... but not today. ;) I've decided to equip my '91 Grand Wagoneer to do full service, on and off road... Electrax in the front axle, limited slip rear axle, brushguard/HD bumpers, rather than fix the sheetmetal damage in the right rear quarter will use diamond plating and build a battery box or tool box back there. Going to make it all look nice but meet all my dreams. First project will be setting up the WVO heaters. One of the biggest disappointments on the little Willys is that it didn't seem to get the attention it deserved. :) What's wrong with people, don't they realize how cool this 60 year old Jeep is or what? :) Is the general population that clueless about autmotive history??? Ok, as I look around and see all the econoboxes, minivans and imports, I guess they are clueless and totally ignorant... what a shame that they're missing out... :) I can't tell one import from the other any more... I'd be useless as a witness to some automotive tragedy, unless of course it was a Mercedes Diesel or any Jeep... :) Looks like the parts will be in for Omega and he'll will be heading back home the weekend of the 23rd of June, provided all the parts are right this time... :) Back to school tomorrow, after this class, four more classes to go until I walk the plank, or whatever it is... my TMCP is done and approved... what a relief...
