A car for SWMBO! Ernest/all, I've wondered these same things over the past few months and have come to realize a few things... I've met Jason. He bought my '83 240d after the floor rusted out. He's a young, energetic gent who reminds me of myself a few decades ago. At that time I would have found great pleasure in the same types of adventures he discusses here. So I have decided to stop trying to discourage him and instead wish him well on his "adventures". Maybe I can regain some of my youth vicariously through him. He seems to be quite successful with his reclamation projects. I wish him continued success. I, on the other hand am too old for those adventures. I'll buy them after some young kid like Jason fixes them up... ;) Jim > Jason, > > as people keep trying to point out to you, cars > were meant to be > driven, not to sit, and multiple things go wrong > with them when > they're not used and maintained. some of these > things will be obvious > up front, others won't become apparent until later. > (i won't go into > further detail, because much of it's already been > covered, and you > don't seem to want to hear it.) > > ignoring that (as you seem determined to do), > you seem intent on > collecting basket cases just because they might > *initially* be > inexpensive to purchase, then get pissy when people > tell you what > could likely be wrong with them... if you're so set > on them in the > first place, why do you even ask for peoples > opinions if you've > already made up your mind? > > > cheers! > e ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2007 21:51:42 +0100 From: "Stephen Rigley" Subject: [db] Re: so you wanted a pic of the engine? ;-) hmmm... it seems the oil filter is spin on... found this under the intake + turbo : http://www.mx5ireland.com/members/srigley/jeep/spin-on.jpg Another pic of the mystery black thing : http://www.mx5ireland.com/members/srigley/jeep/blackthing.jpg It seems to have 3 tubes.. one going from bottom into the block further down, one going to the intake and I THINK one from the cam cover.. so.. catch-can? To take care of the algae you need to remove the fuel tank and I think and drain it out clean it and put it back in then expect to change a few filters for the first while. If you want to restore it then it probably is a taker. I don't see the bids getting much higher.
