OK - thanks. Looks like I may still be a couple of years away from a problem. Son will get said Pontiac van once he finishes his learner permit training, needs about another 40 hours with parents (white knucked we are) before he can get a daylight driving permit (he is still under 16 for a few more months). Michigan has cracked down on the rules for new drivers, which is a good thing for the rest of you :-) Frankly, my honest opinion is that kids should not be able to drive until the age of 18, but that is just an old dinosaur ranting. W210 exhaust system. It's neither. None of my other cars rust like this. And these are external bolts, no exposure to gas. A big part of this problem is that the iron flanges aren't treated in any way. Cast iron will turn to pure rust if it' someplace hot and wet. Turned out that I had neatly hollowed out the bolts, so my drills hadn't gone to waste. but the nuts were so firmly rusted in place that even without a center, there was plenty of grab. All of this effort would have been unnecessary if there was some method of replacing the flange without replacing the cat. The right side flange can be replaced easily, but the left is in there for life. So rusty or not, I had to get the bolts out and reuse it. I just finished installing the new exhaust. All good, except I noticed the joint between the two halves of the new exhaust is leaking.a bit I'll tighten the clamp when it cools down. So John... still have all that WVO laying around? I've been collecting parts and slowly building an appleseed processor out in my barn: I just finished my wash tank and it is sitting outside filled with water doing an overnight leak test. The processor already passed its overnight pressurized leak test with flying colors. I still have about 150 gallons of Blue Moon Burgers WVO in my settling/filtering tanks. I need to find a new source though. The BMB changed hands (again) a few months ago and the new owners already had a WVO deal with some other BioD outfit, so they gave me the boot. =\ If anyone knows a good supply of WVO with good access to I-5, anywhere between Exit 158 (Boeing Access Road) and Exit 208 (Arlington Silvana Darrington) I'm all ears. Anyway, I decided to go from WVO mixer to full B100 user when the last price hike wave came through. I have always mentally set my pain threshold at around $3.50-$4.00 a gallon but decided to get a head start when gasoline hit the first number. That will allow me to save the cash on fuel to let me drive the old Jaguar more. ;) I know that John and one other local north-of-Seattle lister (was it Bruce?) were talking about homebrewing a while back, but I never did hear the result of that. Any news? I should be starting my first 30-40 gallon batch in two weeks or so (going to be in Oregon for a wedding next weekend.) If you still have WVO around and want it processed I'm up for giving it a go. Just bring the oil and some time to work, maybe a few bucks for the methanol & lye (or bring your own.) We can also make popcorn. =) - -- - --chuck goolsbee 02 Jetta TDi & 06 Liberty CRD arlington, wa, usa ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Jul 2007 17:27:37 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Re: [db] Some oil to cook the popcorn? ...or run the cars? give me a call... bruce found some materials but needed a truck, I'm down to one vehicle... my benz, can't haul... Chuck, What's the cost of this setup? I'm getting ready to remodel my carport... could build a gravity filtration and processing setup like this... maybe... B100 doesn't require a tank heater does it? hmmmmm.... Do I spend the money to process my WVO or do I spend money to heat WVO? What is simpler? The other issue is the oftentime unreliable aspects of harvesting WVO... as you found with the BMB... my teriyaki place only produces about 10 gallons a month lately... the mexican place hasn't called, actually pay to have it hauled off... but they have it in a barrel in the back instead of containers... and they speak spanish... and I don't. :) so, if my GW turns out... having fuel heaters on board would permit one the road use of WVO... but of course we know that we can blend without trouble... so if out and about I could mix in 5 gallons into each tank (40 gal capacity)... Thoughts? I'm actually wondering if the 6.2L setup will provide the longevity and economy I'm hoping for... my son is having some troubles with his down in AZ... ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- On Sat, 7 Jul 2007, chuck goolsbee wrote: # So John... still have all that WVO laying around? # # I've been collecting parts and slowly building an appleseed processor out in # my barn: # I just finished my wash tank and it is sitting outside filled with water # doing an overnight leak test.
