Took a trip to Darkest Paraguay (Filadelfia, in the Chaco) this week end with the 300D, and here are some figures: Trip was 476 km (295 miles), and return. Travelling at about 135/140 km/h (84/87 m/h) the return trip was done in 4 hours flat, giving an average speed of 116 km/hour (74 miles/hour) During which I had to add engine oil, I started each time with the oil level at the top mark of the dipstick; and was down 1/2 of the way to the bottom mark when I arrived; so around 1 liter (1 quart) of oil for 950 km / 600 m. Fuel consumption on the return trip was 66 liters for 476 km (13.8 l.100 km) which strikes me as a bit on the high side. Any thoughts on those consumption figures ? Cheers, Ron. - -- Let us consider that arbitrary power has seldom or never been introduced into any country at once It must be introduced by slow degrees, and as it were step by step, lest the people see its approach. ---Lord Chesterfield -- http://www.olgiati-in-paraguay.org -- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Jul 2007 09:56:31 -0500 From: "Alec Cordova" Subject: Re: [db] What are the odds? I don't remember how it's set up on an OM617, but my M103 gasser's oil dipstick only goes down to maybe a quart below the Add level, so it's possible this fool only had the car about two quarts low, and an OM617 holds a lot of oil. On the other hand, whatever oil remained was evidently fairly old, and I doubt it was Mobil 1 or Amsoil, so it was probably in bad shape. I would guess that if it turns, it'll run, but I wouldn't bet a thousand bucks on that. ;-) Alec Cordova Taylor, Texas 89 300CE, 223K On 7/10/07, jasonbassett-at-juno.com wrote: > ebay id 330144760007 > > What are the odds that the motor is actually ruined?
