Doesn't kick on with the A/C. There are several switches that trigger it. Near where the upper radiator hose mates to the block, there should be either a double temp sensor or two sensors, for high and low speed. On the receiver/drier, there is a switch for overpressure. It will come on at either high or low speed, depending on which of these sensors is triggered. The things you want to look at are the fuses and the low speed resistor. There should also be a relay or two in the fuse box that need inspection. The resistor is probably located on the left inner fender. It's a white ceramic piece with two electrical connections. Undo the connections, and measure the resistance. I think it should be about 1.5 ohms. But the specified resistance is irrelevant: if it's NG, reistance will be infinite. I found that I was blowing fuses and resistors pretty often. Turns out that the motors themselves had become sticky, so I disassembled and cleaned them. You need to remove the upper radiator support to get them out. When they finally come out, you'll find they aren't really meant to be taken apart. The nut that holds the blade is left hand threaded, so don't get stumped. The fan has ball bearings. You can take it apart and easily reach the rear bearing. The front is much harder, I just squirted some oil into it and worked it a bit. Assembly is finicky, but I think you can do it ;-). IIRC it typically runs off a heat sensor screwed into the air conditioning receiver-drier. So you can have AC without the fan coming on, unless things get real hot. - Jerry ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #2499 **********************************
