They make a big turn right outside my office window before the head back out over the lake. Makes the building shake. ;) BTW: I have the pickup today as I'm bringing my teenager and my pressure washer to work. Our facilities manager has him doing odd jobs and one will be cleaning up the area around our big 5000 gallon Diesel tank. I may stop by Snohomish on the way home to pick up more oil. Is that OK? Do you want the empty 5-gal buckets back? - -- - --chuck goolsbee 02 Jetta TDi & 06 Liberty CRD arlington, wa, usa ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Aug 2007 10:19:04 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: [db] Re: blue angels # Those are some really nice closeups you got there... http://wagoneers.com/fotos/2007/08-Aug-4-Seattle-BlueAngels/ # Can you give details on the equipment you were using to take those shots? - - used a Lumix FZ50 and Lumix FZ7. 12x Optical Zoom, Leica Lens. the FZ50 is a 10MP, the FZ7 is 6MP, anything over 4MP will give you good results if the OPTICS are good. I've been happy with Lumix(Panasonic) and Olympus digital camera optics. I've tested Nikon, Canon, Pentax and Sony and not been impressed. I ALWAYS shoot my pictures at the highest megapixel, highest quailty possible. Takes a lot of space, but if you get that perfect picture, you'll never regret it. # And perhaps things like focal length and such? - - many of the shots were at the full telephoto range of 12x or 420M (35mm equivalent) used either the program mode or the simple mode, should have used manual focus as many shots were out of focus... set focus to infinity for shots like this, select the highest shutter speed possible. If you want to go with a wider angle shot, go for a higher depth of field with a larger fstop. shallow depth of field, lower fstop. digitals don't make it easy to control shutter speed/fstop or focus... so most of the artistry is in the composition, zoom and layout. would pan the shots, that's where you follow the subject with the camera as you shoot the picture, gently squeezing the shutter and following through. - - Once the pictures are out of the camera I look at them on a 1400xsomething resolution laptop (fujitsu) screen and pick the best focus, light, etc. - next step is to take the 4M file and if needed, crop the image, you want your subject to stand out, elminate a lot of extra background, if possible get as close to your subject as possible, nice thing about having a 10x or 12x OPTICAL zoom... don't use the digital zoom, it degrades quality> I use Lview pro and old shareware program for windows 95. http://wagoneers.com/CS/TOOLS/LVIEWPRO.EXE set the jpeg save value to max, which is only 95%... each time you save with this tool you will lose quality... don't save multiple times. - - once all the pictures are selected, and a few cropped, then I run Bome's image resizer to resize into another directory. I set the maximum long side of 800, 900 or 1024, 100% Jpeg quality, and hit batch save. http://www.bome.com/tools/resizer/ - - then I use WinSCP to scp them up to my server, use shell commands in linux to create the page using a few commands in the vi editor and I'm done. john (fotomeister) ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- On Mon, 6 Aug 2007, Ed Kummel wrote: # Those are some really nice closeups you got there...
